hey, I may be getting myself an ATK this thursday, so I have a simple question
since the atk's sound is special, and it's apparently real good at cutting through in a mix, is it good for anything else but rock, metal or something bluesy?
let's say I wanted to play something jazzy, is it possible to tone it down to a jazz-bassy sound or something non-aggressive

The ATKs only sound aggressive if you want them to

If you want to be able to switch to a bassy/jazzy sound, get a model with the J neck pickup.

Even with just the humbucker you can coax a nice P or J bass sound out of the ATK. Use the neck pickup and increase mids/bass a bit to get a killer P sound. Switch to the bridge pickup (middle position) and play with the bass/treble to get the jazz bass sound you'd like.

The ATK is like the Swiss Army Knife of basses.

Yep...I can go from Musicman on steriods to Jazz bass in about 2 seconds and I don't have a J pickup on mine.

I was thinking of ordering one of the ATK 700 Basses in the Blue Moon color. Hoping to find a (good) picture before I spend money on-line, especially "sight unseen". No one around me even carries the ATK, let alone the blue one:scowl:.

I only see that the BTB is being offered in Moon Blue. It is a gorgeous color, though; my DeArmond M-75 is moon blue.

I had no idea Ibanez put such high quality tops on their basses...Anyway, there's a great 5'er at Bass NW right now (no, I don't work for them...)

Very sweet black sparkle finish.

Supposedly this one retails for about $700. Anyone know how much these go for street value?

I played that one this weekend! I think they had it marked in the $650-675 range...

plugged me new (to me) 90's 305 ATK in to my new (to me) GK1001rb. WOW thats my tone i've been looking floor every flat except low mids a touch on the gk, contour all the way off, presense all the way up, tweeter down a pinch, woofer flat
