+1 Got mine last night as well but had to run out to rehearsal. These are great!!!!! Thanks Markus!

On an unrelated note, the ATK let me down tone-wise for the first time last night. I couldn't quite get the bite out of it I'm used to with my Douglas MM clone for some reason. Need to spend some time searching for it and A/B'ing the two basses and hope I find it...
ATKs dont have the high end bite that stingrays have (comparing to a real ray, ive never played the douglas copy). The ATKs have a better low-mid growl.

Maybe try compensating by turning the treble up.

Yah, I'd never played the ATK with our hard rock band before and it had always given me plenty of bite with the pop band I'd used it with previously (I've since switched to a fretless P for that band as we're headed in a different direction).

I was surprised by how I was getting swallowed up by the searing strat on a Marshall half-stack, whereas the Douglas always gave just enough presence in the upper frequencies to give me the cut I craved. I pulled the treble up on the ATK at one point but ended up with too much clank. I actually had the entire band ask me to go back to my Douglas for the next practice just because so much of the tone was missing. Made me sad. :crying: It was also a wake-up call to me that perhaps a $90 bass (the Douglas, which I bought as a backup to the ATK) could be a really great bass in many respects.

I'll toy with it this week and see if I can dial in the sound I want before this band's first show next week. What's interesting to me is that I've owned this bass for a couple of years now and *thought* I had it mastered to the point of getting whatever sound i wanted out of it. Nope.

PS -- I am not a number. I am a free man!

(Joke for old people)

LOL! I thought I was only person who knew what that was:D But I can't remember the name of the movie.

I have wanted an ATK for a while. I may be jumping in soon with a 305. I just can't find any to test out. All I can ever find in the stores (if they have one at all) are the 4 strings. I want to see that black sparkle finish in person before I buy one.

Hey optikhog, did you try increasing the internal pot gain? My atk has the bite but since I am a pick player I cant say much about fingers.

In an unrelated note , has anyone try to reverse de pups? what will that do?

Thanks, guys. I didn't have a chance to increase the gain last night, but it's on the list of tweaks I plan to work on. I appreciate it.

As a side note, I did switch to a pick for one of the tunes to get as much bite as I could out of it. That worked well but took some getting used to as I've finger-picked everything for the last several years.

Just remember turning up the internal pot is counter clock wise, I remember doing it the other way and the bass sounded like a passive. But check it out either way , cause I dont trust my ears sometimes and my setup is not good enough.

Yeah reversing the pups upside down, I read it somewhere in a review in harmony central, apparently it gave another sound, maybe better for the reviewer.

I was just wondering if someone could do a quick little photoshop for me?

My first experience with exlirs were on the atk, most reviews said they last almost a year and still sound good as new,so $40 a pack aint that bad, and they sound pretty good, I guess time will tell. I am used to d'addario though. Maybe I will switch to them again next time I replace strings.

I should have been a little clearer...I edited the post to show the work that someone else did for me. So the help is not needed but thanks anyway...BTW I love the stickers and when I get my ATK I'll order one.:bassist:

Ah...gotta! BTW my ATK has a new friend...picked it up on Saturday...a Warwick Rockbass Corvette 5 Special Edition! So now I have a Musicman on Steriods (USA ATK) and a Jazz bass on Steriods (the Warwick). Flame maple top is just beautiful!!:bassist:
