I love the B string on my new ATK305 - much tighter than the BB415 I was using before. I like the string spacing too.. I find it actually a little bit wider than the BB415 too. I can definitely hear a difference between the different switch settings, though I'm going to try to EQ a little more into it as well.

using the eq with the switch is the trick

mid position = single coil
neck position = single coil with a bit of highs sucked out (less clank, rounder tone)
bridge position = humbucker, aka MM tone.

Guyz, is there any sweet tone in that bass????I mean , i love the funky stuff, but i would really like to play some sweet deep sounds. Is that possible???
I tried an ESP LTD D5 today , and i loved the way it feels. Even better than ibanez Btb405qm that i found. But you stuck my mind with the ATK :P . Are there any sweet deep tones????

In my experience, there are better basses for really deep, bassy sounds than ATKs, mine never really had enough lows for my alternative band with loud, downtuned guitars. I'd get a bass with a neck pickup (like a Jazz bass and a P bass have them) instead. I believe the LTD and the BTB both will give you bassier sounds than the ATK.

Maybe you don't get exact P/Jazz bass lows, but you certainly get lows. Also, you could change the sound quite a lot by just playing closer to the neck with the ATKs. --Kent

I recieved my ATK300 about two weeks ago. Played three gigs with it and it's a keeper. Truss rod works great, it has way more lows than I expected and the mids were surprisingly robust. The switch makes a world of difference during a gig. I have received more compliments on my tone than ever. Give me my number!!

I've been playing my ATK for 10 years and I've had Warwick Thumb BO and a Fender MIA Jazz.
Thumb is a great bass but it was too unique for me.
When I first got the Fender Jazz I was surprised by its clear sound. I felt like I'd been blind for all my life.
But after intensively comparing the ATK with the Jazz, my ATK now makes me feel I bought a new bass.
I used to rest my thumb only on the PU but by doing it on the neck or pickguard, I could mimick the neck PU soloed sound of the Jazz quite closely. I'm thinking about installing a neck PU though..:)
Low of the ATK is so special I think.
First of all, the controlable range is so wide. When I gig with the ATK, I can feel that the room is full of 'something' without sacrificing other instruments which is hard to feel with the other basses I had.
My amp has a low mid and a high mid knobs.
By boosting the low mid, I get so thick and pumping sound.
If you want more 'texture' and softer sound, diminish the low mid a bit and boost the high mid.
Well.. too much talk with my poor English.
Anyway the ATK is the only bass I'm keeping now but no regrets haha..

Believe me, no matter how much mids I dialed in, it never really ended up sounding like we wanted. Thing is, our guitars usually have cranked highs and mids and cut lows so the bottom end is left for me to fill. The ATK never really gave me the right sound for that. Once I eventually got a two-pickup bass with a beefy neck humbucker, all was well.

If possible, check out an ATK750. That added neck pickup really opens up a whole new world of sounds. :cool:

sorry guys Ivebeen very busy with our house. we have it on the market and are cleaning/painting fixing etc.
It might be a week or two more before I get clips of the pups. I did go in the studio yesterday and layed down some tracks for our praise band (church is making a cd of original music) and I got complimented on my tone :) I was very pleased at how well it recorded. When the tracks are mixed ill be sure to put them up.

I used my middle setting for years, with the EQ maxed out on everything, then switched to the neck cos I wanted to get rid of some pick noise, then flattened the EQ and cranked my gain to give it a slightly fuller sound, then decided the neck setting was to nasal and went to the bridge setting, which is too clicky but I prefer it to the other two at the moment, but I'm getting a bassculture replacement and a jazz pickup to put in the neck position, so I should be happy after that *deep Jim Carrey style breath*

As people have said bass isn't the answer to those situations, but I don't dialing in mids is either, it makes you cut through, but you need some natural depth so it sounds really bassy without having to add so much. That's why I'm getting a jazz installed on mine.

I have a Bassculture replacement installed on my ATK with single, serial, parallel selector. I think the Bassculture gives more growl and lowend.
I'm also considering to get a jazz pickup too.:ninja: Which manufacturer do you have in mind?

I got one of the Stacked Jazzes he makes when I ordered it, if I'm not happy with it I might get a Quarter pounder if it's not a little too aggressive in comparison. Not gonna be able to afford the routing for the Jazz at the moment, but I might be able to scrape something together.

While I'm here, what bridge setup do people here use? String through or "attack" as Ibanez calls it. I've started to get quite fond of the string through despite being a pick player mostly, but I noticed that alot of string manufacturers don't make them long enough for them to go over the nut properly (I thought it did for a while but after getting annoyed with a pretty dead sounding E realised that there was 2 gauges of string before it gets to it's thickest on an E). Does anyone know of an nickel 110s that'll reach that far?
