I only am going to have a pair because I can. There are very few gigs where I would need more than one, but I'll have them.

Nice. I would very much like to stand in front of that rig at volume.

Mmmm.

I took 2 212 rigs, each run by an Aguilar TH500 (and daisy chained), to a loud gig and I was so loud neither the drummer or me could hear the guitarist even when he was on 11! It was way too much.

I'd add a Super Compact and run a 312 rig with a 2 ohm amp.

Well, 1)The volume knob always works 2)it's more of a "heft" in sound thing 3)I've never liked the sound of an amp driven at 2ohms, some company's say their amps are rated for it but, it's never the same.

I would normally run them both on the ground, toed inward to get floor coupling.

Yep. I had to reduce the volume to a point where the stage sound balanced.

With this guitarist it was just an experiment, during the sound check, to fight fire with fire.

Just another lesson learnt, more isn't always more.

That is very true. In a small club I like to use one cab that i can turn up. In a big place or outdoors the one cab may have enough volume but, you wont get the same low end fullness that you would with a second cab coupled up in the ground. I played an outdoor gig with a pair of 2x12's and it was the best, studio like low end ive ever had. Indoors i wouldnt be able to turn up and get the drivers working, so the tone might have been fat but not clear. Different jobs require different tools. Stay thumpy my friends.

Ive bee working doubles all week and im spent. When i get home each night ive been playing the twin a bit to unwind and its now official, this is my favorite cab. I think it is literally the best cab on the planet. It is very expensive but, it is a no compromise product. Along with the vtrm, im getting the kind of rock tones ive always wanted. Anothwr cool thing is that if you are using an aggressive tone and elevate the cab up to head level, it doesnt take your head off. It only sounds slightly brighter. This says alot about its off axis response. Im mot selling my nv610 because it is my reference cab for tight and punchy, but i dont see myself hauling it out of the basement anymore either. Not when one rwin will

I tried my 70's svt though the twin today for a few minutes and it sounded just great. It reminded me how much more low end it has than my genz or vtrm. When the weather gets better, maybe I'll bring the svt and pair of super twins out to my folks house, outside of town and crank it up. Thats where I bring gear to get tortured. My parents german shepard usually lays down behind the cabs and falls asleep. It must be giving her a massage.

My last dog used to head for the hills when she saw me pick up my bass. Thanks, critic! The little pooch I have now never leaves my side, but then again he'll be 18 in September and his hearing is about half gone.

It's a GAS attack! Even so, it's the reason why most of us have more than one bass too, so it can't be all bad :) Looking forward to any gig report where you needed two, that must be like a stadium job with no PA ;)

I no longer have gas for much of anything. I may experiment with some of my preamps once the carvin dcm3800lx arrives but, i dont think there is anything out there better than what i already have. I most likely stick with the vtrm and use the carvins dsp features for any post preamp eq or filters. Mabye boost some deep lows when playing at lower volume, nothing major. That preamp, amp and pair of twin cabs would have to qualify as one of the best rock rigs in the world. Literally.

Excellent playing and production. Thanks for posting. What a monster tone, especially with that white 5-string single coil at the end. Well-defined growling thunder with rich overtones. The sound is so well integrated top to bottom that you can't tell the cab has a horn. I can only imagine what a Big Twin II would be capable of with a slamming amp like the GK MBF800 or a Valkyrie. Feeling GAS pain...

I' m glad that some of you liked it and I'm glad that the recording (no processing at all to the bass) brought the details forward.
The video is part of a (rather extensive I may say) test I did for 4 European 1x12 cabs (plus one from States) in a Greek forum (I could link the thread but I'm sure that all of them would be Greek to you :D ). There are some nice pics though.....

I hope that one of these days I'll gather my strength, find the time and translate it to English.

I got the carvin dcm3800lx last night and had about an hour to experiment. It puts out around 1150 watts per side at 4 ohms. Id like to use the internal dsp to set up a protective limiter. Does anyone (Alex) know how i should set it for a supertwin cab? Also, what frequency and slope should i set the hp filter at. I have an idea about the filter but, id like to know an optimum setting for this cab and monster poweramp.
