I may be wrong but I think Alex from Barefaced uses a big GB amp himself.

New Super Midget arrived. Pics soon; I know.

Quick impressions: Loud as all hell. Similar in voice to the Super Compact, but the tweeter adds something. The smaller box also sounds a tad different, but nothing major. I'm finding I like the Midget with my J bass and Genz Shuttle 9.0, and my P tends to pair up with mt Buster and Super Compact a little better. It is very small and subtle differences, but that is what I'm gravitating toward so far. The Compact/Midget pairing is silly loud. I need a full band setting soon to do the deed with these guys.

In hindsight, I'd have got the Midget first, and possibly a second one instead of the Compact. However, this is my initial impression. I still need to adjust the EQ, and my BBBOD and Blower Bass settings to deal with the different voicing and tweeter of the Midget.

pbrane, it goes without saying that alex is right (it's his cabs, after all) but this has been my experience:

When I unpacked the box, I was stunned by the sheer design of the cab (I have a silver cloth SuperTwin). I quickly hooked my cheap-ass Behringer amp to it and played a few notes, including a low B. Straight out of the box (quite literally) this cab sounded better than any cab I'd previously used - and since I often used "whatever's available" at gigs or rehearsal spaces, I'd seen a few cabs come and go.

First time I took it to rehearsal, I noticed that from start to finish (about 3 hours) the sound had become substantially deeper, clearer and more defined. As if the cab was opening up, so to speak. Since I only use it at rehearsals it took me a few weeks (1 rehearsal per week, max) to "break her in" but a good 9 to 10 hours of solid playing at decent levels will really do the trick. At least it did for me. Really, the more you play it, the better it will sound - up to a point, obviously, where you'll get used to this sound. It's clear as day, dark as night and sounds 100% right.

Hmmm, in fact ... Alex, can you replace my quotes on your site with the above two paragraphs? And I'm from Belgium, not Holland :D

Stacking G3 midget and compact tonight, using my Genz Shuttle 9.0. Interesting mix. Need to fumble with the EQ a bit to hit the sweet spot with my P bass, though the Jazz was pretty plug n play. I like where the combo is going, but I'm not "there" yet.

Played two big halloween parties at good sized clubs and the supertwin just continues to dominate. Last night as I was loading up after the gig it kept running through my mind "why would anyone want to haul anymore than this", "this damn cab is awsome", "Im tired but, still can move this thing in one had, no problem". For both gigs everything went to the foh except my bass and I had no problem covering the room and probably could have drowned out the band with a turn of the volume knob.

That said, I am currently waiting for my new retro six10 cab which, I think tonally, will be even better. After last night I was so impressed with the twin that I "almost" regretted spending the money on the six10 because it isn't needed at all. But then again, need has nothing to do with it.

Another note. Many of you may know that I actually had a pair of supertwins. I quickly realized that was overkill for anything. Im talking crazy, like running a pair of 8x10's loud. So, I sold one to another TB'er to help fund the six10. If I was to run two cabs it would be a supertwin and then use another 1x12 on top just to get the sound up in the air more. I run my cab up front, next to and underneath a pa top on a pole. Because we use inears, I don't need volume behind me. This actually gets the cab away from most walls and therefore, sound better and more consistant throughout the room. The only drawback is that when playing a packed room, people are standing right in front of my cab and blocking alot of the upper frequency information. The extra 1x12 on top would help. Thats also a one of the reasons I ordered the six10. It is taller and goes higher, both of which should help with clarity.

Yeah well, i also had the option to deed each one with an honest 1150 watts. You cant even imagine. That walkabout is all about tone but, you arent even close to opening your cabs up with it. The genz sm9.2 doesnt even make one super twin work. Not even close. The true low end of my twin with a big carvin amp is truly something to experience.

Please elaborate, kringle77. I enjoy your posts and thoughts in this thread so I would like to read more about this particular subject - especially since I'm in the market for a new amp to compliment my SuperTwin :)
