I couldn't say one way or another either. I use similar effects but no envelope filter and they sound great with both. I personally have no issue using my octave pedal or 5 string with the Two10s. B string on the One10 is okay but nice and full on the Two10s.

Using the HPF on the WD800 cleans up so much, makes the B string tight and authoritative. I highly recommend adding that to your board if you don't have an amp with it built in.
I have no issue either with low B into a one10, but that's always going to be volume dependent.....as it is with a 12.

If you are using octave, you may want the 12's. The 10's could not even begin to handle my B string by itself, much less with an octave pedal. No problems with the 12's.

You just need more output in the lows for the low B string (assuming your loudness and tonal balance is unchanged). One 12XN = two 10CR in terms of output.

The Eight10 (with its 10CR drivers) probably has more output on the low B than any other production bass cab.

Yes I was comparing the One10 to a Super Midget and my non-scientific findings were that I thought it would take at least two of the 10's to compete with one of the 12's and nobody here believed me so it's good to hear you confirm that :)

I'll vouch for plenty of low b output with 8 10's of barefaced goodness.

A 410 is pretty potent but two of them is awesome!

Guys, those who used both 10" and 12" BF cabs with effect pedals, which one by your opinion works better with effects? My signal chain will include envelope filter+fuzz+octave soon so I am thinking what is better choice?

I'll ask a followup question...which cabs are you looking at?

We should have asked that first. Like Alex said, if you are comparing the drivers 1 to 1, the 12xn will handle the low B better. But the 10's are perfectly capable if you have enough of them. So Six10 vs Super Compact...Six10 by a mile so it depends on what you're looking to get.

definitely.

I have to say my Super Midget experience wasn't what I hoped and I turned to a Two10. I like the SM format (size/weight), but the straight tone was a little sterile for me. Now that Ive added a HXS to my setup, I may have been quick to judgement. (Im curious to go back and try a SM again with my HXS patches.) +1 on HPF on tightening up the bottom.

If you're lucky enough to try both 10s cab and a Super Midget (AND a SuperCompact) do it! I didn't really get a feel for them till trying both.

Speaking of which... anyone in NYC area, lets do a BF GTG

After much deliberation, I pulled the trigger on a Mesa D800 for my Super Compact. It's gonna be awhile before I can turn it up loud (apartment living), but I know it's gonna be awesome when I finally gig with it. I'm hoping this combo will be my "forever" rig that can do just about anything.

I pulled the trigger on that setup last year and yes, it is great to gig with. I actually have two Super Compacts and both a D800 and D800+, but I end up using the D800 with one Super Compact raised up on a stand the most, often with a P-bass with TI flats plugged straight in. Two of the cabs with an octave or micro synth is super fun, too. I also have cranked them at home louder than I would on a gig and can attest that they get the higher decibel jobs done, either solo or as a pair. I was worried about my ceiling fan detaching from the ceiling at one point!

I have the same amp/cab configuration(although did just change to the WD-800) and can also verify this is an amazing rig!

Hey all- I need some cab advice. I've searched through this thread (for a while, anyway) and found some posts that almost answer my question, but I think I need to ask a specific question if I want the answer I seek. All that to say, can anyone help me with this?

My current state: Four string basses, Mesa D800+ head, and a BF Super Twin cab.

I play loud-ish rock in bars that hold up to a couple hundred people (or maybe a little more). I almost never turn the D800+ up past the halfway point on the Master. Input is set to just below clipping. In other words, I have some extra power I can tap into.

Desired future state: Replace my Super Twin with a Two10. I'm finding I prefer the relatively old-schoolish tone of my Genz Benz NEOX 212t cab. I've never heard a BF with 10" speakers, but everything I've read here leads me to think it might be closer to the tone I seek.

Finally, my question: Have any of you switched from a Super Twin to a single Two10, and did it provide enough volume for your gigs (given the loud rock, Mesa-up-halfway that I mentioned)?

Thanks!!!

I have a D800+ and both a Four10 and a Two 10 (and a One 10). If you are switching from a super twin and playing loud I would be inclined to go for a four 10 or 2 two 10s. I find with the 800 + into the Two10 that while it gets loud the clipping light comes on earlier than i would prefer although it still sounds great. Just feels like there might not be enough power in reserve in a loud band with no PA support. The Four10 on the other hand just kills it, grunt and tone in spades.

That's probably a better question for Alex, or someone with direct experience with both of those cabs.

But think about this...as Alex mentioned a few posts ago it takes a pair of 10's to equal the output of one of the 12's. So if you want similar volume to what you have now, you may need a 410 or even a 610 (I just think 610's are super awesome!) if you want lots of bottom end.

Super Twin max output = 133db.
Two10 max output = 125db.

Adding a second cab will add 3db of output...SO
2xTwo10 cabs = 128db.
Four10 cab = 131db.
Six10 cab = 135db.

Just by going by the numbers only, I'd look at a 610. I feel it will have massive headroom and the bottom end will be closer to what you're used to. If you get a 410 you'll have to run your amp at 2 ohms for max output which is 100% fine with your Mesa, it just keeps you from adding another cabinet and limits you should you ever change amps.

I wouldn't go by max output since that assumes that you're going to be putting in the maximum recommended power, which is quite a bit for the big cabs. You're trying to determine system loudness so you would be better off looking at the efficiency spec. The Super Twin is almost twice as loud as the Two10 but the Four10 is slightly louder than the Super Twin.

Hmm, by that math. BT2 = four 10; 2x BT2 = eight 10. Therefore.....I'm going to need a second BT2 :bassist:

Yes, i don't think 4stringsjack post is answered by max sound levels as he's already saying he has more than enough (too much?) to reach the levels he needs.
I'm also interested in this...i also have a supertwin powered by an Ashdown ABM 500 head. I love the tone, although it took me a while to get used to it (much flatter than i'm used to). For most gigs recently my amps volume doesn't get raised above 30% and a few times then i've still been asked to turn down. I'm ok with that though, for the tone and knowing i'm equipped for much bigger gigs.

Just put my order in for a One10 though ;)! Although i don't ever expect it to compete with the supertwin...its just for quiet rehearsals and home practice...can't wait to hear the difference for myself with the 10's!
