Hey.

Deciding between a Two10s and a Four10s for my Ampeg V4BH. The amp is 100w and gives the valve distortion quite early. The amp is known to play not as loud as other 100ws (e g V4B reissue).

Im sorry, but I'm slow at this, and Alex has tried to explain me, but… I want to know if the (8ohm) Four10s will give me more headroom than the Two10s (at 4ohms) before the distortion sets in. The amp can switch between 4 and 8 ohms.

And will they both deliver lower SPL with the same kind of body/fullness to the sound. (Or does the Four10s prefer to play louder than the Two10s).

I'm not really interested in building a stack of Two10s, but would like to get it as right as possible from start. I don't play crazy loud, so I'm more interested in, if the Four10s will be better than the Two10s for me regarding body and headroom. I like some distortion but not overly distorted.

Maybe I am totally missing a point. But I have tried to read BF articles and watch videos, but still a little confused.

Does the wattage of the amp change when it's on 4ohm compared to 8ohm mode?

As it's a valve power amp it'll be 100W RMS regardless.

The 4x10 is going to give you the potential feeling of more headroom as there are more speakers = more volume, ie if you keep your amp settings the same and plug into a two10, then into a four10, the four will seem louder.

Oh I see the amp now I missed it before. I would say it depends on the watt ratings of the cabs as well, but generally 4ohm or 8ohm won't matter much for volume, but may in terms of how fast the volume changes under certain circumstances. I'm probably wrong, somebody will prob have better info. My bad. Lol

I did a thing earlier this week... May have ordered 2x BB3's (cloth grilles, w/tophat installed). Should be pretty awesome. Will be running my pedal board direct into a Crown XLS-1502 power amp. Probably will run the amp bridged with one or two cabs, depending on the needs of the gig. 4-10 week arrival time. Will be getting them before gigs pick up at festivals this summer!

Beautiful board. How do you use it? How many Effectrode box do you turn on simulteanously?

I mean when do you use the Tube Drive? I have the Blackbird, and with the external footswitch I keep the green channel (clean) always on, and I can select the blue chanel for mild OD and the red one for full distortion, I would never need any additional overdrive...

I've rolled tubes in the tube drive and the blackbird to offer several different overdrive types. The drive pedal is setup to give me almost a tube fuzz tone. I also have it placed right after the comp - a "pre-effect" drive. Different tonaly than the blackbird. Playing live, it's nice to have a couple drives on tap to avoid playing with settings on the board.

When running direct into a poweramp, or iems, the blackbird is always on. The compressor is always on. Drive as needed, phase as needed.
