Official Barefaced Bass Cab Club

bassslinger ho,

in seven months I'll be sixtyfive and I also got a bunk port knee so your suggest ain't really for me... forty lbs w/my super twin is my limit.

seems alex rates his twelves at six hundred watts and his tens at two hundred fifty, have I got that correct?

three tens ain't for me, I think.

love my super twin, really do... I was jus thinking out loud.

maybe get a second super twin? Be good to have a backup

or a stack of one10s. Those things are pretty dang light.

I am loving my ST on this tour.

Well on the website it says "Max power" of the One 10 is 500W RMS, but on the back of the cab, it's written "250W 8Ω" so it's confusing.

I guess a 310 would be rated 900W (the 210 is rated 800W and the 410 is rated 1000W)
compared to the 1200W of the Super Twin

The weight is 20Kg for Two10 + One10, slightly heavier than the 17Kg of Super Twin, but easier to put in the trunk of a car IMO

-------------------------

I already have a One10, and I wonder what should I get next?

- Tone is more important than the power/weight ratio, both options would be more than enough for me anyway. I prefer the color the 10CR series, but I'd like to have more low end. Would a 310 settup give me enough low end, or should I buy a Super Twin and shape the tone with a preamp in order to find the color I like?

- 210 + 110 would be much more modular than 110 + 212: I could take only the 110, only the 210, or both depending on the venue (3 options), whereas I would only have 2 options in the second case (it's not recommended to mix 10CR and 12XN cabs, and it would be useless anyway).

(last, on my One10 the Barefaced logo has the normal position / rotation, so if I buy the TwoTen, it will not look as nice as @Merton beautifull setup).
I think adding a Two10 to your setup will give you enough low end. I have 2x Two10, they sound great.

If you do go that route, you could always ask if they have the old badge and have that installed.

Did someone ask for rig pron?! :D

They're BB2's rather than new BB3's, but that doesn't detract from how amazing they are. But that still won't stop me from envying yours a little when you post your NCD pics when yours finally arrive. I suspect you'll love 'em!

I have a Four 10 and a Two 10s. I use the Two 10 for rehearsals and usually run both the Four 10 and Two 10 at gigs simply because they are so light and easy and because I can. It is of course complete overkill

Looks like you've pushed your Super Twin hard through a lot of gigs and it came through for you quite well. The power to weight for that compact cab is impressive but how do you like the voicing on it? What kind of EQ adjustments do you use to dial in your tone? I've seen the Big Twin, which is larger and has that nice HF horn, described as more PA-like. I wonder if the smaller size of the Super Twin gives it a more focused and punchier low end? Also, is the treble extension pretty good so the cab doesn't sound too dark?

My Super Twin is noticeably darker than my Bergantino NV212T w/tweeter off.
I can believe that. I tried an NXT112 and even with the tweeter off it was the brightest 12" cab I ever played through. I currently have a Gallien Krueger Neo IV 212 which is more to my liking. It sounds about right with the tweeter at -2dB but is okay with it off if I boost the treble. I play mainly finger style so a cab that is too dark doesn't work for me. Playing with a pick has a sharper attack where cutting the treble or using a darker cab sounds good. The GK 212 is a solid, punchy, well-voiced cab and manageable at 48 lbs. The one thing I don't like is the knuckle busting flip out handles. Does the Super Twin high end deliver good definition playing finger style in a busy mix? If the driver can put out an audible amount up to about 7kHz with the treble goosed when needed, I think that would be enough.

Haven't had the chance to use it in a band context yet, I'm halfway across the country from it right now. I should have also noted that the NV212T with the tweeter off is also too dark for me for fingerstyle. Pick playing can work with the tweeter off but I still prefer it on just a tad. The Super Twin is very punchy though a probably great with flatwounds or an otherwise vintage-y tone. I don't think it will be my go-to for the prog-rock trio stuff I normally play where taking up a larger swath of the frequency spectrum is both appropriate and required.

I had two Supertwins and they were plenty bright enough for anything I threw at them including some Jazz bass slap. I decided that the BT3 would be my forever cab so I ordered one and sold my ST's.

I honestly don't consider the Supertwins all that dark. In fact I was always surprised at how bright an ST was considering there's no horn….

The BT3 is definitely on another level but I would have been eternally happy with a Supertwin also.

bassslinger 5,

hardly any eq adjust - the bergantino forte hp has variable hpf/lpf also, use that more!

I'm not a tweeter fan. this super twin does not sound like a p.a., nope, not to me and it ain't too dark in my opinion either. real good punch for me. people I play w/and gig-goers both have given me buttloads of good words about what they're feeling/hearing from these two pieces of equipment I'm using to bring them bass guitar. this stuff sounds better to me than any of my heavier stuff, just saying. it's a trip but that's the way I feel about it.

I have a Forte HP and really like it too. With the filters, on board compressor, drive, punch, bright, and 1200 watts on tap it seems to do everything for me with no extra pedals. Simple, powerful, and compact.

Here is a good audio demo of the Super Twin - thinking I ought to try one of these...

I've had the same compliments on my tone this last week. Every night at least one person has mentioned the bass tone - punchy, thick, huge, mega, gnarly. And one commenting on the combination with the X7 activated - "oh my god".

Frustratingly I don't feel my cab works great in our rehearsal space*, and I had began to think I should've got a 10" based cab. I don't see me ever getting another cab after this tour!
*our rehearsal space is a concrete cube with no where near enough acoustic treatments… and 2 loud guitarists.

off topic - your link does not work to your website - you have mikewatt comma com rather than dot com.

It isn't a frequency cut off. The cone rolls off around 4kHz, it doesn't stop dead. The central dome rolls off around 10kHz. Crank the highs and you'll get a lot of treble extension out of the 12XN drivers.
I found this post interesting and potentially useful. My Bergantino Forte HP has a selectable bright switch which can add +8dB @ 7kHz, which seems like it would give plenty of treble extension without a tweeter when needed. Just thinking out loud about how this head with a SuperTwin might check all the boxes…(simple, compact, light, easy to move, full frequency range, powerful)

Im playing a Bergantino BAmp through either a Super Twin or a Super Compact and love the sound. I think the speakers go up to 4k, but disclaimer in my case is all my basses are strung with flats and Im certainly not a slapper. I get a big clear sound I love and is all I need. Between all the other stuff on stage I dont need to be in a range any higher than I have access to and I definitely cut through like a fine knife with chest pumping capability.

5StringPocket quoted Alex, who said "It isn't a frequency cut off. The cone rolls off around 4kHz, it doesn't stop dead. The central dome rolls off around 10kHz. Crank the highs and you'll get a lot of treble extension out of the 12XN drivers."

Glad he dug that up, very useful info.
