Holy cow, those "label stripes" are fantastic. So awesome!!!!!!
Oh and I have a 38" scale fretless 4 string / a red homage to Carl's own "Green Machine." 1/1/2004. Sorry this picture & this picture set are terrible. I will work on it...

Interesting endpin placement. I should replicate this should I ever again want to buy a bass which causes me reach problems.
But which strings will fit a 38" scale? (Except CT's own brand)

What is the length from the nut to highest tuning peg on the A and D string on a 38" 4 string is probably better question? Add 2" to 3" beyond the furthest tuning peg from nut and you've likely got the length you're going to need. Obviously by adding in the scale length of the bass on top
(The measured length from the nut to Twelfth fret x 2 is what I use to confirm, I've found it's not consistent among brands to measure from nut to bridge but sometimes it's very clear)
I've yet to restring a 36" scale bass, let alone a 38" but getting confirmation on this would be great.

I'm pretty sure DR Longs will work on a 38" with a normal top load bridge. I have them on my 36" CT and there's at least 2 1/2" past the nut of winding left on the string. Oh yeah, I did forget that there are CTs out there with string thru bridges and whale tails.
Those will be even longer. My comment was definitely with regards to top loading bridges.
It's funny how string manufacturers sort of keep us in the dark when it comes to short or long scale (or any scale different than 34") strings. It's nice to buy strings off the shelf that will work. Headstock and bridge design just add to the problem of finding the right string length or buying strings that are too short or long.
I've restrung some short scale basses recently (33") and the strings I used were tapered at the tuning peg.
Since I used 34" scale strings, the taper went well beyond the nut and the tuning peg on the B string. It just looked wrong but sounded fine. The string fit the nut just fine too.

Here's something you don't see every day. This has been an elusive instrument to a few on TB. It's a ton of fun to play and according the man himself (Carl T) there was a twin made at the same time for Geddy Lee 
Here is my new 8 string CT! 6-24-94!
I turned 13 when this was built just a few days prior!
It's 34" scale...the high strings are octaves, but I've been experimenting with down tuning. Just a ton of fun!
So few of these have been built.
I'm thinking about a half dozen.
Just a beautiful bass...but the tone is what really speaks to me.
The EMG singles sound huge!
