I don't use it often, but mine is fine. It's not blast the doors off their hinges loud, but it gets to unity no problem, which is all it needs. It does seem to take more travel on the dial to get to unity, but it's never been a problem for me. Could also be a tone knob setting, as on certain pedals tone settings make unity gain much easier to achieve. Never really looked into this on the Octoplus as it just did whatever I needed it to.

Ice Boxes can be found pretty easily and cheaply. The Deep Freezes are much harder to find, and pricier. They're both great, though! I have them both, and they won't be leaving my boards any time soon.

I'll do an A/B soon, and get back to you. My gut tells me there isn't a huge difference, but there is a difference. I wish I knew how the internals differed, as I know the Deep Freeze is based off the Ice Box. If it's a component swap or something, it would be easy to make one into the other. Unfortunately, I don't know if that's the case. Anyway, I'll get back to you soon.

Do either the Deep Freeze or Ice Box have a blend on them? I notice they have a level knob but I can't seem to figure out if it is a blend or an overall volume.

Also for anyone who has any of the older FX Series fuzz pedals I'm curious if any of the them do a muff style fuzz but without the mid scoop?

Just A/Bed them. Here's what I've got. I was using flats if it matters, and this was through a small GK combo, not in a band mix.

The biggest difference is bass retention. The Ice Box is brighter, and loses a small amount of bass. Not a lot, but enough to be noticed playing solo. I doubt anyone would notice in a mix. Deep Freeze is a bit mellower, and not quite as swirly sounding. I could get them both to sound very similar, but the Deep Freeze always had a bit more bass.

Depending on what you want to spend, and how much you use chorus, the Ice Box would likely work well enough for a quarter of the price. The big reason I got the Deep Freeze was because I heard it was an amazing sleeper chorus. I'm not a huge chorus aficionado so I don't know if that's true, but being a DOD fan I snatched it up relatively cheaply considering what they go for. It was certainly better than my Boss Bass Chorus, for what that is worth.

For DOD I have the Bass EQ and the Stereo Bass Chorus. The EQ is just like any other EQ, but the chorus pedal is pretty sweet - I will say that. It is just as good, if not better than the CE-2 for guitar, which goes for around $180 online. I paid $15 for both of them, too LOL

I would like to get my hands on a DOD flanger, but I haven't made my mind up yet. The older envelop filter as well - there is one for sale locally for $60. I'm waiting for the price to drop.

Here's my DOD list right now:

Bass Grunge
Bass Overdrive
2 x Death Metal
Thrash Master
Metal Maniac
Milk Box
Gonkulator (reissue)

Of these I just scored the Bass Grunge and I think it's absolutely perfect for my needs, totally underrated pedal!!

I use the Milk Box, Gonkulator and Death Metal a lot in my grindcore band, and the other death metal to make harsh noise with.

Need to pick up a Meatbox reissue and one o' them purdy blue delays....
