Well, the Guitar Center I ordered an FX10 from sent me a pedal that on the front looks totally fine, but the back of it is alllllll jacked up. The backplate is bent out of shape and missing a screw. The GC only had a photo showing the front of the pedal, nothing from other angles. So call them and check first. Going to get my refund over the weekend.

Thanks for that clarification on the FX10/410 circuit, @DigiTechRep. At this point I'll probably just get a new or used 410. If I find a good FX10 down the line I'll pick one up and I can judge any differences for myself. :P

Oh man that's a shame! Did the pedal still work? It still may be worth hanging on to since I've seen the prices of them slowly creep up over the past year or so...

Haven't had the chance to try it yet. Probably will just to see what I think of the sound, but I'm still going to return it on principle because that store definitely messed up. If I see a used one in good condition I'll pick one up then.

Yeah that does suck man, hopefully it gets worked out.

I missed you asking about the FX10 and 410 differences. I'm no expert on it but I've heard they are the same exact thing from the guy who designed it (before and above) and I've heard some guys say they can hear differences. I think it's at that point where it really wouldnt matter if there was differences in sound becasue they'd be so slight you could barely hear them.

I can tell you one thing, the FX10 is a staple on my board now and forever. It just adds this great som som to my tone. Makes my low end super solid especially when adding dirt to the signal. Even on it's own it would be a great preamp. I'm really glad I followed advice of others on it. It was so worth. And according to what most say they got theirs for, I overpaid. I still dont care. It's really worth it.

Can't fault that at all! While I've had good luck with GC in the past for the most part they can irk me with things like this too.

That's why I thanked Tom in my post for the clarification. ;) Hadn't actually heard that they were the same circuit before, just that the FX10 had something the 410 didn't (maybe Juan saying it had an impact on everyone else?), but it looks like it's all due to a slight difference in the level control based on his comment.

Usually GC hasn't given me any problems, at least when I've bought in-store. I bought my CEB-3 used from one in SC and until recently it was a mainstay on my board. First time ordering online. Good learning experience for buying used pedals online in general, really. Don't trust anything with just one photo!

I'd definitely try it out. Who knows, you may have no interest in what it does and could save yourself in the long run. (I doubt you'd be totally turned off, but who knows.) I agree with the the principle of the thing, but knowing what I know now, I'd probably look for a broken DOD pedal on ebay listed for repair or parts and just steal the bottom panel. All just my view.
I recently ordered my VFE Ginger from a San Fran GC. They totally screwed my order. For over a week, they kept telling me it was shipped and or going out that day, until they finally admitted they had lost it. I finally got it over 2 weeks later. I really wanted it so I didn't cancel the order and actually expected them to cancel it on me. I still have it and love it, but I definitely archived that in the ol' memory bank. Regardless of what you do with the pedal, I'd definitely go write a Google review on that store and I'd call them and talk to a manager to see what my options were for them making it right. Who knows, maybe you could swing a big discount on something else you want.

That's what I would've done, got a cheap DOD on eBay and just replace the bottom.

But then again, I couldve been pretty miffed myself and called the stores manage and demanded a discount. Nothing better than a $30 old DOD FX10 ;) Or old bad a$$ DOD anything for that matter.

I received my FX10 on Saturday and even though I didn't get a whole lot of time with it over the past few days I've got to say that so far it's everything I thought it would be! Just gives a nice "special sauce" to my overall tone. Hard to make a Sadowsky sound even better but this does it! Also sounds amazing with my fretless J too! Now I'm definitely eyeing up a Milkbox just as soon as finances permit...
