awesome man....i assume when i got to order this from bass specialties he will go over everything with me right?....from woods to options im hoping we sit down and thoroughly go over EVERYTHING....this is a big investment and i want to make sure i know what im getting and also know everything that is offered

Well, they usually just send a fax to Rob Elrick saying they want a bass and he'll send over whatever he has around....maybe you'll get lucky ;) Glen or whoever else at Bass Specialties will definitely make sure to get down exactly what you want for the bass. While it's definitely best to know what you want BEFORE you start the ordering process, they'll answer any questions you have. Most of the options that Rob offers are listed on the price list on his web site- he'll do a few other things not listed, but most of it's there. From your list it seems like you want a pretty normal bass- was there some strange option you had in mind that isn't listed?

Rob has mentioned that he feels the fingerboard is one of (if not the?) most important pieces of wood in the instrument, so he avoids compromising it as much as possible. There's actually very few basses with fancy tops out there with block inlays that I like- I love 'em in Jazz basses, but they look out of place on a lot of the boutiques. If it would look funny with dots, it'd probably look even moreso with blocks :p

i may just go with the standard dots for the inlays.....im going to go in with a couple pictures and show glenn what im looking for as far as the color so they can try and match it as close as possible

You can always take a pic of a similar Elrick and photoshop/MS Paint some dots on it to see if you like the look (there's a neck-through Classic with spalted maple/rosewood board on there).

on the elrick sight right? i actually printed it out and put white out on the frets to give me an idea....i thought it looked alright but im just nervous cause the others i see look so nice but none seem to have the dots

Here ya' go. This is mine and it has "regular" dots in the "normal" positions. That is "regular" and "normal" for most everything else out there. They are abalone and Rob chose NOT to use a picture in his new catalog because it had the dots!:crying:

Don't feel bad- I've owned nine of his basses now and none have made it onto his website :D Is it a catalog for shows like Musikmesse or something?

I posted pics of my new Classic V under my brood/family thread.....but for those who missed 'em.
Classic V, 34", walnut/birdseye maple, P/J, passive vol/pan/tone but with control cavity routed just in case, 7.1 lbs strung with TI flats. Love it!
