I have an obsession for wood. The musical kind.
Nope, I've been doing my own setups for almost two decades. Sadly, this model wasn't worth it, especially if problems furthered with complicated neck-thru repairs and all (as opposed to bolt-on). Not trying to derail the thread, but my Yamaha, on the contrary, set up quickly and beautifully out of the box.
Here's a used LTD B-204SM I got from GC. Killer top, a bit chubby for a 4-stringer at 9.5 lbs. Stock electronics were just ok, I upgraded to an EMG-35P/J set and BQC EQ. I also replaced the nasty pitted black nickel "cosmo" hardware with black.
Does anyone know if the maple top is a thin veneer, or does it have some thickness to it?

I have the 206-SM, my understanding is that the top is pretty thin.
Does Ltd make 35 scale length 4 string models? I know of the 2005 anniversary edition and I've been trying to get my hands on one but they're kinda hard to find. Anyway, thanks for reading!

Got it for less than 400, not bad, plays well, not a real fan of the preamp though. Thought I might wire it passive and see, if not, drop some EMG's in.

ESP LTD RB-1004 (Rocco Prestia signature)- Haven't played with this a lot yet, but will be doing a head to head video of this vs the Conklin Rocco Prestia siggy.
ESP LTD GB-4- I just reviewed this last week and I love this bass's slap tone. It's a very fun bass and a heck of a bargain!
ESP BB-1005 (Bunny Brunnel signature)- This is a fun one. Haven't reviewed this or given it a lot of play time yet, but it's a fun bass. She's a big girl tough, definitely a bit more cumbersome than some of my other basses.
Edwards by ESP HEJ-100 (Hitoki something or other signature)- I just got this back from my tech. It's a really interesting bass. Really cool tone and awesome finish. This thing is from the early 90's and there's not a lot of info on this bass. I'm not really into 90's J-Pop, so I have no idea who Hitoki is.... but the bass is cool!

Hey there!! Can i join the club? i got this ESP-LTD B-206SM on the second hand market. The Spalted Maple top is has a crack in it cuz postal services are always very gentle and respectful with whatever people send back & forth, right? The seller had packaged the bass so perfectly, & yet they managed to drop it off a truck or smthg... Anyway, do U guys know if the crack is gonna get bigger? And what to do so prevent it? Or even if it doesn't get any bigger, i would like to repair it somehow... Any suggestions?

U can't see the crack when looking at it from this perspective, only when U tilt it slightly. It's discrete but i'm worried it might widen with time, seasonal temperature/humidity changes etc!

You could try some thinned down CA glue (superglue) applied with a syringe to try to get back in behind it. My concerns with this method would of course be getting any glue on the face. Note that I've only heard of this method from luthiers and never actually done it or even seen it done so I'm not even sure how they go about thinning it down. YMMV. That's the best disclaimer I can give.
Well, in the interest of honesty, I actually sold that one. See, a while back I bought it used for a decent price, and loved it. But I also didn't say anything to anyone other than my wife about buying it, because honestly I just wasn't interested in hearing about how I should be spending my money from other members of my family. But, at the same time my mom had seen some FB posts by me talking about how much I loved those basses and wished I could get one. So my birthday rolls around and my mom presents me with this one -

Damn how did I miss this forum. Here is my ESP story. In 1983, living in NYC, I just bought a new Steinberger fretless for quite a bit of money at the time. I took a trip home to Burlington Vt and stopped by to see an old guitar tech mate. I was complaining that I wasn't playing the fretless enough and struggling with the unlined board. We parted, said goodbye, I did not think much of it. A few weeks later a box arrived in the post from the tech. Inside was a JB Player neck with the frets pulled and filled. There was a note that he had wanted to try the conversion anyways and I gave him the inspiration. Well I did not have a body. So I called another bass buddy who was working in New Haven at Brian Guitars and told him the story. He said "we have this loaded ESP body sitting under the register you can have for $50 bucks". Great, send it down. I took the neck and body to my NYC tech on 48th St and had it put together. The Black tuners and Badass were the most expensive parts of the project. Threw on a set of Rotosound Rounds and that was my #1 fretless for 30 years. Finally the neck got a little wonky from the rounds and I have never got around to replaning it. Here is that body in it's latest incarnation as my #1 with flats.
