Official Exquisite/Glarry/Burning Fire Bass Club?

It looked good to me in the farther away shots. Maybe if the pick guard and control plate were one piece (or cut from the same piece).
;) i thought about that from the beginning, telanoc. i have plenty of the PVC plastic sheet left so i may go for that. i just want to play the thing at this point and decide whether i even 'deserve' a J!

but playing with these things is a real pleasure --- so much you can do to get hunks of lightweight wood to look and sound good! i'm done with 'boutiques' and off-the-racks that i'd have to modify, anyway. :)

I agree! I love my lighter instruments.

my take:
- must have a glarry (et al) and a number --- otherwise = you're a guest! ;)
- club members tolerate each other's peccadillos because that's what clubs do! ;)
- jawamac is our leader (he's the cop and the conscience): he can do whatever he wants! :D

So by TB etiquette, a club is open topic for club member discussion.
Got it, thanks!

:) sure: i think there is an 'etiquette' involved, but anyone can pop into any club and make any post. that said: a club is a club, right? i think the ebay/pricing hysteria by non-club folk was over the top 'non-club'. in real life: if we were standing around the bar in our club talking 'club stuff', and someone crashed the party, they'd be welcome...or not!

when i'm out on the regular boards: i say and post whatever i want --- it's expected even when it's not appreciated ( ). but here, we're a bit more focused and we appreciate each other's efforts because we share some things in common: we have a glarry et al, and we have a number! we also 'know' and appreciate each other a little differently than the 'open range' of the larger forum.

we'll all feel better when folks get their cheapies and do something with them = the reason for this particular club! also: i hope those folks become members and share their experiences and thoughts/ideas/mods/pics/etc. all of us would benefit from that! ;)

Well put!

thanks, jack. i may just do the simple thing and look for some passive J pickups. i'm in no hurry, but i'm seeing the limitations of the glarry pups in the J i have.

thanks, cuda: i forgot about KDB's inclinations on the issue. as above, i'm in no hurry --- i'm just trying to 'scope the playing field'.

also: my experiment with high art wasn't quite what i'd hoped (too high, not enough art! ) so here's the J with a more traditional look...i like it better:

It looks good, JRA! That Black with maple is killer! What is the exact color of that spray? FWIW, my wife and I both liked the artistry on the plate.

Very well said, JRA. This is a great sub forum. I have met some of the best people I have ever met on here.

it's a matte called "sweet fig." it's one of the krylon fusion colors. i don't think there are more than 6-8 colors for that stuff (?). it seems to take to the plastic well (it's marketed as "bonds to plastic").

but purple is my daughter's favorite color since her childhood --- so it's a no-brainer for me!

My daughter’s favorite as well!:smug:

While posting an update a few moments ago to another thread (eBay or less new Bass purchase status poll), I realized that my original posts (pages 106 & 107) were inappropriate for this thread. Therefore, I sincerely apologize to everyone that may have been put off by my posts. Going forward, I will pay more attention to the thread titles and hopefully, I'll do a better job than I did this time. Your understanding (and I hope your forgiveness) will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

In all honesty, I didn’t find the posts offensive at all. I found them informative. However, I sincerely appreciate your candor. In my eyes, you are 100% forgiven! I would be honored to give you a number when your bass arrives (crossing fingers for ya).

:thumbsup::thumbsup:

i've gone overboard in lots of threads ( :D ). it's easy to do around here! i've sort of learned to enter and leave the "clubs" with some respect, however, because those groups are there for the 'affiliation' aspect.

thanks for even caring about this thread! ;) i'm looking forward to your participation and enjoyment of the club once you get your cheapie!

That last part got me teary-eyed, @JRA! What an awesome father you are, sir.

I was already notified by eBay that I will be receiving a refund instead of my order. I may try again sometime in the future.
that's a real bummer! i would encourage you to pursue the glarry/exquisite/burning fire/yada yada cheapies, though --- there are so many things we can do with these lightweights to make them imminently playable and useful (and it's fun for tinkerers, too!).

i know we were all excited about the how-low-can-you-go aspect of the uber cheapies, but: ordering the ~$65-$80 axes gets you the platform to create an ax you can use --- whether you modify it or not. i'm still thinking about a GIB ax from the glarry site: just to get it quickly and in one piece...and covered by warranty. just sayin' --- it's still cheap as he//! good luck!

Thank you @Jawamac and @JRA very much for being so kind and understanding. Unfortunately, I was already notified by eBay that I will be receiving a refund instead of my order. I may try again sometime in the future.
I'm not sure if you've had one in your hands, but I'd say even the $60 to 70 -ish ones (from reputable ebayers) are worth the price. I paid $90 directly to Glarry for mine and I'm completely happy with my Ibanez clone bass. It did take a bit of setup, though.

 i think they all need attention of some sort, out of the box (cheap or not!). but to take these things from clumsy to fun is satisfying. the uber-cheapies ($17) are a gas, but that's a 'blip' event...a once-in-a-while thing if ever again.

If I get one of the 3 I ordered, I can send you one if you’d like! Just help out with shipping and it’s yours!
