Official GR Bass Club

GR Bass wood cabinet differences in sound compared to Carbon Fibre.

I'm considering buying the GR110 combo (wooden cab inc mini one amp),
Or an AT110 carbon fibre cab with the mini one head.

Obviously the Carbon fibre cab will be lighter, but how about the sound?
Has anyone compared GR wooden and carbon fibre cabs TIA

Anybody else feel the high end has a little too much sizzle up high; as if it's crossed over very high and/or the tweeter is for very high freqs.
Feels like a bump at 6-8K. FWIW, the bass needs a hair more neck relief so that didn't help with occasional fret noise.

I wouldn't say it like this exactly. "Hi-fi" yes, "two much high frequency" no.

I don't think there's a lack or excess of a specific frequency, it's just that everything is very well defined, clear and detailed.

In the rehearsal studio where I go every week, I used to play on Markbass or Fender Rumble combos. Then I brought my amp to rehearsals (Sisma + GR NF210V). It sounds and feels as if I had removed a blanket from the usual amps.

It takes time to get used to it, because now I can hear all my mistakes :roflmao:. But I could never go back.

A TB'r posted that he tried both at NAMM last year and could detect no difference in tone between the CF and wood enclosures.

I like bright bass tone
I like bright for many things too. It's just that it feels like the tweeter / crossover is tuned very high like a HiFi speaker cabinet.
My Berg can be equally bright without being so strident and it emphasizes higher bass harmonics and not frequencies well above that.

I was able to alter the high end on this cabinet using a custom filter preamp.
The results are amazing! I'm looking forward to gigging this cabinet for the first time with a reasonably quiet rock band on Friday. Think a 1x12 is enough?
BTW, GR says this cabinet goes to 22KHz. although they don't say how many dB its' down. Nice to know I'm covered well above any frequency heard by humans!

Nice! I've always been curious about the work of Talkbass member Passinwind. I'd love to try this pedal.

Hi All,
I just received this ONE-800 head a couple of days ago and I am very impressed with it so far even though I have to use headphones for now since I just sold my old rig that consisted of a Genzler Magellan 800 head and Darkglass DG212N cab. I do have the GR AT212 Slim Plus 900-watt cab on order and I should have it by the middle or end of November hopefully.

Yes! Very Cool! Looking forward to see what you think of the slim cab after you have done your set/s.
Yeah awesome cab, I played with the 3-way on the back a bit and then left it in the low setting. Sounded great all night, and at the end of the night it was a pure joy to pickup that smaller, light cab to carry to my vehicle. :)

Yeah at this point I need to reduce the number of 2x12s in my arsenal, so I think I'm just gonna keep the GR's and sell off the other two. I've had the SL212 for a while in my home studio, but think the AT212 can reside in its place. I went down the path of exploring the Barefaced Super Twin (which I played again in the studio last night before I went to the gig) and have decided it's not really a fit for me so that one is also going to the classifieds with the SL212.
