Dunno when (if) they they stopped with the "Midnight Wine" on Highway Ones, but I had an '06 that color.

Interestingly - the one you posted, like my '06, is more reddish than my MiMs - an '06 fretless, and a '05 5-banger. Those are more burgandy...

My local music store has a couple of p's and a couple of j's for $699 that have really got me to thinking about picking one up - even though I've been anti-Fender for a LONG time now. And now after going through all 15 pages of this thread I'm really suffering from some GAS!

You wont be dissapointed. I've owned Fender American Vintage and American standard , Laklands and a Mike Lull and presently I own only two basses a Highway P and a Highway jazz and it's all I need. Now I just concentrate on my playing. What I like about the highways is the no nonsense approach they have great necks and USA alnco pickups and the matt finish which I prefer over something real shinny.

The answer to your question is yes...The original pre-upgrade Hiway 1's had a "vintage" style bridge with the threaded barrels. I actually have one from a 2003 Hiway 1 P-bass that I'm not using but not sure if I want to sell it. I have an upgraded Hiway 1 Jazz from 2006 that's my main player now and the first thing I did was sell the Baddass on eBay. It's not that I don't like the Badass bridge for tone, they're just way too heavy for me. I just installed, yesterday, a vintage style KTS titanium bridge plate with Graph Tech saddles and it's really light and sounds pretty good thru my practice rig. I can't wait to hear it thru my stage rig. The whole bridge assembly weighs 3.8 ounces complete with plate, saddles, and all springs and screws.
When I get enough spare ducats saved I'm gonna get the KTS titanium saddles to go with it. )-(

I just got mine a couple of months ago. I've made a few mods and I'm almost finished (the last thing I'm going to do is change the tuners to Hipshots). I changed the pickups to DiMarzio Area J's, added a treble bleed (Orange Drop) to both volumes, and an Orange Drop Cap to the tone. I also changed the original pickguard to a Warmoth Vintage Pearl (it's a lot darker in person).

Thanks :hyper: She plays great too, im trying to decide if im gonna leave the flats on or get some DR coated (in normal color haha) for a more modern sound to contrast how it looks.
And the pickup cover hasnt gotten in the way of my playing, like it has for others. I personally like having it, ive started resting my hand on it while plucking, and doing the same with the bridge cover.

Now if only the electronics worked :crying:

I'm already plotting to buy one of these after I sell the gear I listed today. I have a problem.

Only thing is, which?!?! I'm so torn between getting a P or a J. I already have a J, which is making me lean toward the P, but then I look at some pics of nice J's here and I can't decide.

I had a P for a few months a while back, that I actually traded for the J I have now, I do like P necks better, but I like the size/shape of Jazz's.

Ughhh :crying::confused::hmm:
