If you already have a J bass, I'd definitely get a P. I have both and love them. Otherwise just get a nice-feeling P neck and put it on your favorite Jazz. There's a nice on in the classifieds now. :D

Take it from an old timer been around player get the P it doesn't sound as nice as the jazz when your at home or practicing but in the band mix it muscles it's way through with that low mid punch to the gut. Think of the P as a muscle car and the jazz a sports car plus you have a jazz bass.

Already done :) I put a maple/maple P neck on my MIM mod project and I love it 100x more now, I just miss having that P punch for certain things, especially the new gig I'm trying out for at the end of the month

Yeah, I traded it a while ago for a MIM Jazz. I wanted a Jazz that I could turn into a project bass, and since I'm broke, the trade was the only way I could accomplish that to get my starting point.

Yeah, It's that P tone that I really miss in some situations. My originals band now wouldn't really benefit from it, but the cover band I'm in would, and so would the band I'm trying out for soon (thinking positively ;) )

3-0 in favor of getting the P. Thanks for backing up my most recent lean back in favor of precisions

I've got one of the old Highways (2005), and I would say that in half a year of daily use it starts to peel off.

By what I've seen in the pics of this threads, just a couple of them (mine) seems to show signs of wear: maybe people have other basses and just use the highway once in a while or the newer ones (with badassII and so) have a thicker finish.

By the way, using a belt or pants with metal buttons helps.

Mine could. Wait for the input from someone that has a post-2006 one, just in case.

Anyway, think that just the parts of the bass that touch your body will lose the finish, and that gives the bass a sexy worn look.

I owned a 62AV P and prestently have a highway P and jazz and classic 50's P. Nothing compares to the AV imo it's a custom shop quality fender. That said I love my highways and could never part with them. The 62 pickup is my favorite fender pickup. Also the nitro finish on the AV62 is as good as it gets it's a high gloss nitro you can see your reflection in so the finish is much prettier and thicker but it still can chip pretty easy. I would have never parted with my AV62 if I didn't have money issues.

I am the proud owner of an 07 Highway One Precision bass in 3 tone sunburst. The bass was in my local music store shop for 2 years until I came along and bought it. They had it on clearance and I just couldn't pass it up for the price I paid for it. My Highway One has since become my main bass. I also have a Squire VM jazz which now serves as a very good backup. The only mod (if you can call it that) is I am planning on having it set up for flats.

Hi guys,

I've been reading interesting points of views, reviews and opinions on TB for the last 2 months to help me decide for my first real bass. I had (and sold) a cheapy P-bass copy back in December, just to know if the 4-strings world was for me. And I loved it. My bass was lacking everything I wanted for a bassy sound (it was a cheapy all-clunk sound) so I decided to read, listen and try different basses searching for "the one". All I knew is that it had to be a Jazz.

The Highway One caught my eye at my local shop since I read a lot about it here, plugged it and played just one note; I fell in love instantly. Very bright and with a powerful growl! Must be the set up, that came just perfect in this Honey Blonde one. This is going to be my main bass for a very very long time. Haha must take off those stickers if I want to join a band...

This, my first post in TB, is to thank all you guys because it is thanks to you guys that I even tried a HWOne. Thanks because when you guys make reviews and compare gear in your posts, you are giving advice to people who want to join the bass world like me.

Hmmm...lemme get this straight. You just searched, read, did your homework, went out and played what you were interested in and THEN you posted here? To say thanks? How odd! :eyebrow:

Why didn't you just lob up a post asking "what kind of bass should I buy" and just be done with it? ;)
