Why?
Both pots where scratchy and they didn't clean up with electronics cleaner. Plus the jack was loose so I upgraded to a switch craft.
OK, just as long as you weren't fixing what wasn't broken.
I'm not joking...there are people who actually waste time and money replacing perfectly functional electronics with more expensive stuff of the same values thinking they're going to get magic tone.
Magic wire, magic pots, magic capacitors. Presumably to go with their magical go-faster instrument cables.

you have to admit , in the case of the highway 1 the grease bucket is a pretty big difference from standard wiring

Definitely tort. Just really looks good with the 3TSB. I would assume my modern Bongo means more red as opposed to brown.

Until then we can figure out the case situation. I emailed Fender and they gave me a rebate email addy...so I am going to email that today and I will let you know what they say.

Strangely, they're both significantly different from the one on the 2000 HRPB.
Odd. I never noticed.
Mine is a 2004 Precision, pre-update. Put in CTS pots, cloth wiring and a SD Vintage for P-Bass pickup. These changes made a big difference for me, probably due to the pickup. The stock pickup honestly wasn't bad, but seemed to have more treble and less bass and mid than the SD. The SD gives a much rounder sound with added warmth. The cap is a Sprague Orange Drop. I can't say as I can tell the difference between caps, but the Orange Drop came with my supplies and was good spec-wise. The nut has been changed to an American Standard nut that I modified to suit the bass and my style.
I honestly like the vintage-type bridge and the more traditional thin font logo. I can't say as I like the 70s style stuff or the Badass2. The finish is thin-skin for sure. Some spots are still satin, while others have shined up with use. Interestingly, the pickguard apparently aged in color. Under the knobs it's pure white, while the rest is more a creme color. The flash in the photos makes it look a bit lighter than it is.
This is my primary all-around player, with D'Addario rounds on it. The other bass in my pair is a SCPB, the Sting signature (flats). The two complement each other nicely. The Hwy1 is the better all-around bass for most music styles I play, but I am glad to have both.
