What a rotton deal. Completely inexcuseable. That's a chunk if change that nobody can really afford to write off. I work really very hard for my money and I'm sure that you do to.

I can sure understand about the spirit of this thread but just think how would feel if this happened to another TB'er. I personally would feel bad.

I'd like to think that everybody that spends time here is a great person. I mean they do play bass so that says a lot about their personality. There are going to be bad seeds everywhere. I'm not that naive. But Paul has developed a pretty tight community here considering how many active members are involved. And playing bass is a very emotional thing for most of us. I'd like to think passionate. And this is something we all share.

I don't know the guy but I liken this to somebody stealing my gear. I'd want to be warned if a known thief were around. I've been extremely fortunate and all the dealings I've had with the online retailers and private sellers have been positive.

He gave me a sob story about being a poor working musician in need of a good 2/10 bass cabinet. He emails me after the cabinet arrives (an EBS 2/10) and tells me that it isn't powerful enough. I tell him to send it back and he starts giving a bad time saying I misrepresented the cabinet (not true! besides at that point he had not paid jack squat for it) He stopped returning my emails and kept the cabinet. Since then I have bought some stuff from Steve "Dude" Barr and he has always been 100% reliable (as are the vast majority of people on this site).

I had a "so so" transaction with ojthesimpson.

I bought a Geddy Lee Jazz from him, which was supposedly "dead mint". It was also to come with a second pickguard.

The shipping was a bit over the odds, but the overall price was good so I let it slide.

The bass was not 'dead mint' condition, it was 'very good'. His band's sticker was on the back of the body, it came off no problems, and there was a reasonable ding on the headstock. Neither of those things would have made me not carry out the transaction, but it wasn't an honest description. Again, since the overall price was fine I let it slide.

The second pickguard didn't come with it, he said he'd get it to me right away. Six weeks later, no pickguard and he hasn't responded to a single email since then. He's been active on talkbass since then, so he's had access to a computer.

Is the pickguard that important in the grand scheme of things? No, but the fact that the description wasn't accurate and his poor communication and unwillingness to live up to the agreed upon transaction ticks me off.

On the other hand, I recently bought a pickguard from a e i o u with no problems. Also Davo737 was just great to deal with on a recent pickups deal. Tim Cole was also very cool on a recent bass deal.

No, davidmwilson was the cool one in this deal. This was a bass I sold a year or so ago, and had wished I had it back since. Things just seemed to work out well, see the black one in my avatar for pictorial Dave was great to work with, and even generously threw in some nice bonuses.....I am very happy with this deal. Matter of fact, I couldn't be happier :)

David, sorry to hear you are unhappy on the jazz deal from ojthesimpson, he was a very good buyer when he got it from me, and it was indeed mint/as new with both guards, and deluxe fender bag when I shipped it to him.

I also have to give thanks to incognito89x, whom was great to deal with recently. I have also had 2 good smooth deals with thedeadking, but I am still hoping he will send me back my comfort strapp, and schaller lock ends my fiancee acidentally included with the bass.

GREAT guys to deal with - Happy as hell with both purchases!

Recent trade:

- Traded my Cort Curbow 6 to machetejames for an MTD Kingston 5 with Bartolini active preamp. Great trade and solid dude to deal with. I've been playing the hell out of that bass of late. :D

I recently bought an iAmp350 from Doug Nork. There was some shipping damage involved, but I can't blame Doug too much, since he used the original factory box, plus the amp was in a gig bag. Anyway, he called me immediately upon receiving my email, and by then I had just completed repairing the amp, so I decided not to ask for any compensation, nor to file a FedEx claim. There's still a tiny ding in the front panel, but happily, I like the amp and don't care about resale value so much. I have no doubt it was in pristine condition when it left Doug's hands. He was a true gentleman to talk with, and if things had been worse, I'm sure he would have made it right.

I've said this before on Talkbass, but: please package everything in such a fashion that a six foot free fall onto concrete will not harm it! Factory shipping containers are often times not really up to the job. I typically double box anything heavy. Having been a FedEx driver, I know all about bad things happening to nice gear. :eyebrow:
