Official Joyo Club Part 2: Beyond Thunderclone

Newbie to the OD world here! After reading pages and pages about it, I ended ordering a Joyo American. It came yesterday and, after two hours tweaking, I came to the conclusion that I have no idea how it works! Been searching but couldn't find any setting recommendations. So...which are your favorite settings?

Thanks! Will try that! One question: I see you boost mids in the EQ section but cut the
voice knob. I thought that knob was kind of a mid boost... How do they interact?
And what's the relation between Voice and Drive? Do they also interact?

Voice is a mid boost/cut before drive, while the top row EQ is after drive. If you turn voice up, you're feeding a "mid bumped" signal into the drive. This will also be a hotter signal, so you might want to turn drive down a bit to compensate. Likewise if you turn voice down, you're feeding a mid cut (scooped) signal into the drive section, and also likewise, this makes the signal a bit weaker, so you might want to turn the drive knob higher to get the same level of drive. The drive is designed to react quite differently depending on the amount of mids in the incoming signal, which makes the voice knob very effective for changing the sound.
Also, your voice knob boosts or cuts the same frequencies as the mid knob, so if you turn voice down, you might want to turn mid up to compensate, and the other way around. To get a flat(-ish) total EQ, you often want to mirror the voice and mid around 12 o'clock, as you see in the picture Fat Steve posted, where voice is at about 10:30 and mid around 1:30. Obviously, you don't have to mirror them like that if you like a bit of mid boost or cut in your signal.
I hope this helps you make some sense of what's happening as you play with the settings.
EQ knobs are pretty basic, the level is the overall volume output of the pedal, i generally fine tune it last, once everything else is where i want it. Voice has been covered in way more detail than i knew
. the drive knob is pretty much the amount of overdrive/gain the pedal is adding to the signal. The more drive the more break-up/distortion you will get. There is no real tricks to finding settings, and it really depends on what you want the pedal to do, i use mine to add just a touch of dirt, so my drive is fairly low (about 10 o'clock) but it can get very hairy. I have my voice knob at about 1-1:30, lows at 1:30, mids at 11 and highs just past noon. The level dial most people will set so there is as little difference between your volume with the pedal on and off, or with just a small increase with it on, if you increase the Drive you will have to decrease the volume to maintain the overall volume.
I´we had some time with my Joyo´s and a blender (LS-2). And that makes my Voodoo very useful. It looses too much low end for my tastes, but when I can blend in my main tone (Ampeg) it works great. I turn up a heavy fuzzy sound from the pedal, but keep it low on the LS-2, with my clean signal at unity. Sounds good! Run it into the Chorus with the same clean blend and I can get some pretty wild tones, but still quite useful. I do want to try a different Fuzz, but I can def live with this for a while. And with the blend I´we found new good things with the American. I´we only found the low gain settings good before. Turning up the gain alters my tone too much, but together with my clean tones I can really crank it and still recognize my sound. And one last thing. I´we previously said I could n´t notice very much range of the Dyna Comp, especially from the Attack. But with the band, playing relatively loud, it is quite effective. I can dial in a pretty good punch, so I like it a lot

I have the American and Ultimate Drive. Both pretty good, but I definitely want to try them with my LS-2 too. Surely will increase their usefulness.
