I'm generally happy if an octaver tracks to about a C on the A string. Anything lower than that is impressive as octavers go, unless you're spending enough to get a POG

Just purchased a Dr J Sparrow. Should have it next week. Going on my IEM/ Nano board. Was running an American sound into a radial sb-2. Going to the Sparrow will allow me to get my pedal juice on there to power it all. I really like the AS, even though it is a little noisy. Looking forward to trying the Sparrow, as I never liked the BDDI, but hoping the mix control will remove the mid scoop.
look forward to your thoughts...I have never tried one, but would like to. I am currenty gong back and forth between a BDDI and a Moen Buffalo...the Buffalo is just too clean for me...sounds nice though.
I've looked at the Buffalo before, but couldn't find much info on it with Bass. Does it have enough gain to drive a Power Amp?
I can test it next Thursday at a weekly we do - It does have a lot of output on tap...but I find I cannot get any overdrive from it..

Anyone know if the cab sim is still working through the DI out even when the Sparrow is turned off?

I think I received either a mis-housed different pedal or faulty one...it is advertised as a soft OD specific to bass- this one was into full od at 9 o clock with a passive Carvin PB4 (Nordy PU) Had to back the bass volume off to 2/3 to be able to open up the drive anywhere in the 12 o clock or more spot.
With color and drive all the way counter-clockwise it has a thick lower OD sound (for lack of a better descriptor - almost a JPJ kind of thick OD leading towards James Gang)...but increasing the drive quickly gets into Geezer NIB area and quickly drops low end..(almost as if any setting past '2' on a 10 point dial switches capacitors to something with an HPF set at 100...or loose connections..)
I also hear (imho) a lot of low end roll-off with the color knob open at all...really sounds to me like a tube screamer without a bass mod
I will try it at a weekly gig tomorrow night - but as of now, I would much rather send it back and get the micro version of the American Sound or the Husky Drive...I use the full sized AS as my 'home tone' with a slight OD and it sounds (to me) MUCH better than this..hence why I am guessing it is a faulty one or a clone.

Sadly, judging from this demo of the Moonbase pedal, it seems like yours works as intended:
I say sadly because I find it highly disappointing.
It's ironic that a fair deal of their dirt pedals intended for guitar works extraordinary well on bass, but the one they do make specifically for bass seems to not do it very well at all.
At least it doesn't sound like a pedal I have any desire to have in my arsenal, while I still ponder on maybe adding the American Sound and Ultimate Drive to my dirt arsenal that until now includes Orange Juice and California Sound from Joyo.
I use it as always on pedal now in my signal path that goes:
Bass>> EHX Black Finger (always on) + [usual signal chain consisting of various pedals] >> Trace Elliot GP75SM 130W 15" (via tuner out, which is the pre amp signal post EQ on pedal level and impedance)>> Joyo Orange Juice> Behringer BEQ700> Behringer Ultragain Mic100 (via balanced XLR out)>> Active 345W 12" PA speaker with horn Behringer Eurolive B212D
My Trace Elliots EQ are set to emphasis the lower mids and the BEQ700 are set to emphasis the higher mids, though with the 10Khz band cut all the way down (which according to the frequency response diagram seems to work as a high shelf filter) and the 4,5 Khz band dimmed some as well to tame the highs comming from the active PA's horn.
Also I boosted the 50 Khz band on the BEQ700 a little to counter that my active PA's frequency response begins to roll off quite heavily after 65Hz.
Further more I cut the High knob on the PA speaker all the way down (a high shelf filter set to 12Khz) and left the Low knob flat (a low shelf filter set to 80Hz).
So basically I run a higher mids heavy slightly overdriven 12" PA speaker with horn and with the low lows and high highs scooped out, using the Orange Juice as the main source for the overdrive, in series with my bass amp with a 15" speaker which are set to handle more of the lows and low mids clean.
Seems to work out quite nicely, and comes close to my desired tone.
The Orange Juice seems to emulate a gridy, grindy, crunchy type of tube drive well.
