I know this is an old thread but if any JP owners can help me understand or learn any info about the jp pickups made by Armstrong and the john east preamps that Jean-Pierre used in his basses and the controls knobs etc. I understand that the pickup selector switch is some sort of 4 position switch. Info appreciated. (Just bought the bass used). Thanks

I think it might be neck pickup/neck and bridge in series/neck and bridge in parallel/bridge pickup, I've had similar switching in ACG basses and I think Dingwall do this too.

As far as pickup info, I can tell you that the ones that have the screws at the middles of the ends (not in the corners like those in the picture) are sidewinder types and were made by Aaron Armstrong. I have a pair that JP sold when he closed up shop. They've been in my bass for 5-6 years now.

Hey Guys, just stumbled across this old post ! JP Basses are now made by my mate Pete at Skjold in the USA. However, I'd be happy to help about the details, at least the ones I remember

Pickups where made by Aaron indeed. A steel blade surrounded by 90° flipped coils.

It's with me in Norway. Arrived on my 60th birthday... fantastic bass, and so versatile, perfect response to any technique. I get so many nice comments on the tone, and the neck is so perfect, my main bass for sure. The craftsmanship on this bass is outstanding!!

Hey JP, thanks for crafting a great bass! I've never played anything like it. It came with a set of Labella Black tape wound strings. Sounds amazing! And that neck profile is just so playable, even I jumped straight from 4 to 6 strings, no sweat

Here is my JP Basses Naia 6 in Greenville South Carolina
purchased off TB a couple of years ago and is just fine
I beveled the edge where the forearm comes across the

top of the bass since it had no contour there just for my own preference.
