Hi Greg,

Many thanks for the welcome and your answers. Congrats on the Skyline Decade. How does it sound? Personally, I loved the looks, but I always assumed that it would be a straight rock bass given the p/u locations. I really like soul, old-school motown, funk, pop and rock myself (fingerstyle & slap), so wasn't sure it was the bass for me.

Regards

Andy

Andy, no problem, glad to answer your questions. As for my Sky Decade, I think it's pretty versatile (in part due to the pickup locations). I can get:
*a very smooth version of a P-bass tone with the neck pup solo'd in single-coil mode

*a growly, sort-of J tone (but thicker) with both pups on full in single mode

*a big, nasty growler with the bridge pup solo'd in humbucking mode

*a dub tone (but with some growl) with the neck pup solo'd in humbucking mode

*something between a P and a J (but bigger than both) with both pups on full in humbucking mode

And that's all with rounds! The only thing it might not be great for is slap, mostly due to the placement of the neck pup.

I haven't tried flats yet, but some people love them with the Chi's. The other night, I checked out TBer Aquanova's Youtube clips with her Decade strung with half-rounds--nice old-school funk tone!

Do you remember what's going on here?

Evan, this thread should be a place where people can vent when they need to--there's no "rah-rah all the time" requirement, IMO, despite what some say about club threads.. And I think you have every right to be frustrated.

If you feel like everything's squared away now, that's cool. I do need to catch up with Leo about something and plan on calling him Monday. If you need any additional info, let me know and I'll pass it on to Leo.

Any info on ETA is always nice, but I figure I'll wait until the fretless is due (early April) to try with them again. Part of it was that I was hyped up for the mid-January delivery of my Sonic Blue but then never heard anything. Thanks for your help, Greg.

OK guys, haven't been on as much the past couple of days because it was NBDX2 (new bass day times two). First arrival was a 55-01 that plays and looks great, that is going to be my backup until the BG5 is here. The REAL reason I've been ummm, predisposed, is I can't stop playing what came the next day.....
a brand new PLEKtastic DJ5 from Beaver at Bass Central. This thing plays and sounds FANTABULOUS!!!!!!

that's cool, Markus. Your Inca J-Sonic is going to be awesome...

Honestly, I'm a little put off though (not by you, Markus, or what's coming to you). For my Sonic Blue DJ, I was given an estimated arrival date of mid-January. Obviously, that didn't happen which is fine. But, I tried several times to contact Lakland and get a more accurate date and not once got a response to that specific inquiry. I haven't asked for pics or anything like that since I figure requests like that could slow down the process. I didn't even contact them prior to the estimated ship date, only after so that I could get an idea of when I might see the basses.
The only update I received was from a fellow TBer, who notified me that the delay is due to the fact that the bass was overlooked and never went out to paint... even now, I haven't actually received the update from the sales team at Lakland. I'm looking forward to the basses, but I've been let down with the lack of communication.

I know I'm not some hot shot bassist, but I'm a working musician who could use a little better communication. Even an email like:
"Sorry, slight oversight. Body is going to paint. ETA Mid-April."

Maybe I'm over reacting, or the GAS is getting to me. Sorry for the vent.
evan,

id either email or call kirk, he has always been super fast to respond to my emails, within a couple hours, even for stupid stuff like serial number questions.he wont mind.you have a right as a buyer, especially
after buying 3 U.S. models in such a short time.i can see where you would be put off. i would think bass central would be a little more on top of the situation also:rollno:

and brian has ignored a couple of my emails too
