Hey gang... So I posted the other day regarding my search for some 'tweaks' to my Eden heads to get them sounding better in the mix with my 44-02. Well, after last night's gig and some more experimenting I discovered two things: In most cases, the 44-02 in full-range mode (all pickups, all coils on, preamp FLAT) with older strings was simply too dark. I discovered it really wasn't the amp to a large degree, for better or worse. The mids weren't the problem really, it was the lack of treble response from the bass. In a big room, the definition and attack was getting lost. Solution? Boosting the onboard treble control helped immensely, then tweaking the amp from there. Also, I discovered that my particular 44-02 sounded very thin and nondescript in the mix with the light gauge strings I was using. I put a set of medium-gauge strings on this morning and got everything tweaked, and it's like a brand new bass was born. The funny thing is that my 44-01s and 55-01s all respond better with light gauge strings. I think the mediums help to tighten things up more with this bass, especially since it's a good 1.5 lbs lighter than any of my -01s. The 44-02 weighs in around 9 or 9.5 lbs. Has anyone else run into situations where a certain gauge just flat out doesn't work on a particular bass, Laklands in particular? I'm really stoked because now this bass really feels and sounds like I know it should... I can't believe I went for this long with it sounding 'off' to my ears with the other strings.
i have my eq on my 55-02 all the way up. The only really workable tone to me from the MK-1's. When I get back from Canada, im going straight to lakland and getting chi's put in it.

Now, I'm just curious... when did you order all of your basses? I've been waiting seven months for my two DJs and I still have another month or so to go.

Honestly, I'm a little put off though (not by you, Markus, or what's coming to you). For my Sonic Blue DJ, I was given an estimated arrival date of mid-January. Obviously, that didn't happen which is fine. But, I tried several times to contact Lakland and get a more accurate date and not once got a response to that specific inquiry. I haven't asked for pics or anything like that since I figure requests like that could slow down the process. I didn't even contact them prior to the estimated ship date, only after so that I could get an idea of when I might see the basses.
The only update I received was from a fellow TBer, who notified me that the delay is due to the fact that the bass was overlooked and never went out to paint... even now, I haven't actually received the update from the sales team at Lakland. I'm looking forward to the basses, but I've been let down with the lack of communication.
I know I'm not some hot shot bassist, but I'm a working musician who could use a little better communication. Even an email like:
"Sorry, slight oversight. Body is going to paint. ETA Mid-April."
Maybe I'm over reacting, or the GAS is getting to me. Sorry for the vent.

That is unusual.... I've never had any trouble getting a response about anything. It usually takes less than a day. Email Brian Gingrich directly about it. He should be able to tell you what's up... "[email protected]"
