There's something very nicely "organic" about the trans-white body color contrasting with the rosewood board and the maple inlaid dot markers. Nice shades of white, beige and brown. Very clean and simple. Refreshing and warm at the same time.

sweet bass.....love the black hardware.....

decision decisions - so I am converting my 55-02 to all black hardware I just got the big stuff and now I just have to replace the toggle and string retainer

but what look should I go for ?

which one do you like
now I just have sell the chrome hardware

Played a 5501 last night, unbelievable. Liked it more than my 74 pbass

well.....so ..............when you gettin a Lakie? You probably could get a US (or two) or maybe 2-3 Skylines if you sell your 74 (if it is in good shape!!!)

am i the only one to have any difficulty registering for the LOG? No matter what password I try to use I get a message saying to submit a valid password. The first couple of times i thought I was just missing something but now I'm starting to think my computer is mocking me.

and while I'm here posting I have another observation to make...

I strung my 55-94 E-C but I didn't get the extra long scale strings and so I didn't string the bad boys through the body. No big dealio but I had to say that these Lakland bridges are so bad ass (can I say bad ass on talkbass? I guess I'll find out).
Not only is the string through body a nice option but the looks of these bridges are so much sharper than other bridges out there. I even look at high end custom basses and I'm ruined because since I got my Lakland Lakland I think just about every other bridge out there looks cheap-o.
Minor, possibly insignificant and random observation but I was wondering if anybody else developed a similar penchant for Lakland Bridges since they became converts.

Okay now get back to focusing on my original question. I need a LOG account so I can save $$$ on the new LOG bass I must have.

I love them bridges as well!!!!

some people think they look like "dish drains" and do not like them...not me....lve the looks and the sound they enhance!!!!

I've just fallen in love with my DPLEII again, so thought I would make my first post and also ask a couple of questions.

When I first emailed Nubs for a membership number back in May '07, I had just sold my early 55-02 (stupid me). My email proudly claimed I was a Dudepitter & announced I was the proud owner of a DPLEII, & had a DPLEI I was paying off which was shortly to be sent from the head 'pitter in the US...

I have no idea what happened to the DPLEI. I had paid 10/11ths of it off, but then had major upheavals in life and was never able to get a response to any emails I sent. Anyhooo, no sour grapes, as i was partly to blame. If the bass did get on-sold, then I really hope someone is enjoying making brilliant music with her!

Back on topic. I almost traded my DPLEII recently for a Nash 70's Jazz bass. I hadn't played the DPLEII in a while, but when taking photos for the trade, I plugged her in and was blown away by everything about her... which has got me gassing for another Lakland or two.

Seeing as I have been out of the Lakland loop for close to 2 years, can I ask the following questions?:

* Did the DPLEIII ever come about? Was always curious about that. The Skyline Decade looks awesome. Anyone have any soundclips with the single coil Chi-sonics?

* Are the Sklyine basses still made in Korea?

* When did the Skyline DJ stop shipping with Aero pickups?

* The new LOG Skyline 5 looks amazing. What strings are recommended for a Lakkie 5? I never changed the strings on the 55-02 and can't for the life remember what it was strung with.

Hi Andy, welcome! That's quite a story. Sorry to hear about the DPLE I, but at least you still have the II. It's a beautiful bass, and I know it sounds great--I have a Glaub with a DS myself. I can tackle most of your questions.

1. The Skyline Decade = the DPLE III. Sooner or later, Lakland will introduce different color schemes, I'm betting. But they have a big winner now, IMO. (I bought one myself last month, passive with the single/humbucker push/pull, and I love it!) I remember when it was being designed on the Pit, I wasn't enthusiastic about it--didn't care for the look and assumed the mahogany body would make it heavy. But when I got my hands on one, neither of those assumptions turned out to be true!

2. Skylines just started being made in Indonesia a couple months ago. The Cort factory in Korea shut down, and Lakland decided to stick with Cort because they knew the line so well and the Indonesian plant made great samples. Thus far, the Indo Skylines (which include all the Skyline Decades) have been great from all reports! Also, Lakland now has a Plek machine, which it uses on each Skyline.

3. Lakland switched to in-house pups for the JO and the DJ sometime in early 2007.

4. Not sure on the strings since I don't play fives.

Personally, I marvel over the Lakland bridges, I love the oval shape, the string-through body option... pure, classic, understated elegance... and such a beautiful visual identification feature too!

last I heard of Papa Roach was their tune "last resort".. that might be why it was the last I heard of them. Not a good song in my opinion.

Everybody has different taste. personally, i like that album over nearly everything that came out after.

What strings are recommended for a Lakkie 5? I never changed the strings on the 55-02 and can't for the life remember what it was strung with.

My 55-02 has TI Jazz flats on it and i'm liking them. Like most string questions, it probably depends on what you want to do with it. I'll probably get some rounds for mine when i replace the TI's and i actually have a set of extra long DR Hi-Beams waiting for it.

Hi Greg,

Many thanks for the welcome and your answers. Congrats on the Skyline Decade. How does it sound? Personally, I loved the looks, but I always assumed that it would be a straight rock bass given the p/u locations. I really like soul, old-school motown, funk, pop and rock myself (fingerstyle & slap), so wasn't sure it was the bass for me.

I Play a 44-01 Fretted. Styels i play are: Jazz, Latin, blues, and love to pop and slap her.....

Yeah, they're doing really well right now and have been for the last 5 years or so. From what I read, Tobin (the bassplayer) writes a lot, if not all of their songs. Honestly, he was not the most gracious when I met him, but Jacoby the singer was way cool. I snapped a few pix with him. I was talking to Tobin backstage asking him about his Laklands and then I started telling him about the custom Lakland I had at the time and he just kind of looked at his tech like what the **** is this crazy guy talking about. I'm sure I'd be thinking the same thing though, so no biggie.

When I met Finger 11, I talked w/ the bassist for quite a while. All the members were very nice. Anyways, the bassist plays Skylines (55-02 and JO5). He had told me how he'd switched from an SR5 because the Lakland B was tighter and better, and that the bass' necks stayed stable. So, I mentioned the 35" scale and graphite reinforcement.... he was surprised, he didn't know about either, LOL.
