I have a first run JO (signature headstock) that's a VVT, but that's not what flagged it for me. It's the body ferrules/bolts and the finish appearance. It screams Skyline.

for one. It looks to be a Skyline if I'm not mistaking. I used to not be a big Black & Maple fan, but the Black/Black Pickguard/Maple really makes it looks sharp IMO. Pass the GAS X please!

well, FWIW, i told him yesterday that the body was confirmed skyline. what he does with that info is ultimately his decision. my guess is he had no real knowledge of lakland before he went to sell the bass (it looks like he joined tb just to list it). i had the unfortunate job of slowly informing him of the "issues" with the bass as the info came to me over several days. now, he has a bass that is not what he thought it to be. i did tell him that tb'ers would want to know all the details.

i agree that the starting bid on ebay is a good deal for a skyline jo with an upgraded neck (no word on if it is the glaub or a taper, kirk said either was possible on a us model). i asked him to measure the nut width.

also, he has always been communicative and friendly with me. the fact that he told me the serial # on his jo was "bg 111" suggests he had no idea that was a red flag. the fact that he now knows and has opened an ebay auction at a lower price without full disclosure doesn't look so good. caveat emptor, and all that.

p.s. kirk told me that usa and skyline body/necks can be swapped with, "minor woodworking."

wow, papa roach is a name i haven't heard in a long time. they used to play the bars in sacramento in the 90's. not to sound totally out of it, but, i didn't realize they "made it."

Yeah, they're doing really well right now and have been for the last 5 years or so. From what I read, Tobin (the bassplayer) writes a lot, if not all of their songs. Honestly, he was not the most gracious when I met him, but Jacoby the singer was way cool. I snapped a few pix with him. I was talking to Tobin backstage asking him about his Laklands and then I started telling him about the custom Lakland I had at the time and he just kind of looked at his tech like what the **** is this crazy guy talking about. I'm sure I'd be thinking the same thing though, so no biggie.

Yeah, from what I understand he's a newer addition to the band. When I say newer, I guess the last ten years or less. The old bassist left or got booted, not sure. Tobin could have been the difference between them making it and not since he's writing most of the stuff.

Edit: Looks look Tobin began filling in for their old bassist in 93 and became permanent around 94' actually. Supposedly the old guy "flaked" out.

WOW, when did Lakland start making these again??? I have a trans-white Dual J 5 string made back in 2002 that I adore. (See photo below) These are very fine basses with killer vintage tone. Mine sports a pair of Basslines and it sound amazingly sweet and rich! Like "butta"........;)

Very nice! Man, I'm digging Lakland's trans-white lately.

They're not making those again, Matty just bought that beauty used (from a GC, no less).

Never been a trans white guy, but I do like that one!
