Hub was great. He kept it low-key for the most part, which fit in perfectly. When he took a solo at the show I saw, it blew me away.

Cool! I really liked that they switched it up from the record at the end and took it double-time.

They're playing the entire Nation of Millions album with Public Enemy at their annual picnic in Philly in June. I might end up going to that show.

Hub always played what was best for the song. He took the ego out of his lines. Never did he leave the pocket to do some unnecessary fill or anything. He had some awesome lines and his upright work on Do You Want More?! was awesome. Definitely in my top 5 of favorite bassists.
Owen's different, but I'm really diggin what he's doin

So today we had a sorta last minute show, and let me tell you, it was a DOOZY! It was a benefit show at a local university (so we were volunteering our time for a good cause), and it was just a chapter out of Spinal Tap, lol. PA system freaking out, the five piece band that played before us having 11 guitars (plus the bass) on the stage for their 8 song set, my vocal mic being turned off randomly, and then greatest of all, the colleges radio station broadcasting through my rig (as well as the PA). Apparently their tower was about 40 yards away. At first I thought it was the wireless, so I tried switching channels, and finally just went direct into my head to no avail. At least everyone got to keep up on the schools women's softball game that was being played ;)
Overall a fun time though. Met some great people, expanded the fanbase, and got to have one of those days that helps build the bands' chemistry.

Great stuff! Did you play along with the songs on the radio? I hope everyone took it in good stride...

I have a Carvin R600 head that I used in the early '90 to play out. Worked perfectly! My son uses it now on top of a Peavey 2x10, and 1x15 Black Widow cab. Lots of bang-of-the-buck in that rig. I guess the R600's lost some quality control from what I've heard, but this is an early one. Still have the same tube in the pre and everything.

I agree with all of this. Well, I don't listen to Do You Want More? a lot (my heavier listening starts with Things Fall Apart), and Hub's probably in my second five in terms of bassists--I often wish he was mixed further up on the records. But he was great. Is he doing anything now, or is he really retired?
