Last night I was writing down the lines at home. I was standing, and suddenly the strap slipped and the bass fell down on a stool and jumped on it, leaving dings and marks on the edge and bottom of the body. I also broke my cable (it got under the bass when it fell), but that's nothing compared to the bass. Don't know if I damaged just the finish or there are other issues too. Good that I still held the neck so it didn't fall to the floor. Good that didn't happen on stage either

today will be a sad day, my fretted scheff sold on friday and im shipping it out today.it is going to a good home in wisconsin.
i will miss it, its a great bass with a unique voice.But i will still have my fretless scheff and im keeping it forever.
and i only sold it to buy another lakland

i picked up an Aguilar Tone Hammer to use with my passive basses.

first off,WOW!!!!

what a great preamp, i have tried all of the pedal preamps except the sadowsky and this one blows all of them away.

it was between this and the sadowsky, but since i like to boost the mids at times this was the clear choice. this thing has headroom to spare with its 18 volt power, i was very suprised at how transparent the tonehammer is, it really alows you to boost the hell out of the passive sound without coloring it.ive never heard so much punchy bass,without it getting muddy.
the overdrive circuit is very usable, you can add a little or alot. it has a gritty svt sound in there as well. i cant wait to use it for recording, i may try to get some clips up this week, if i can find some time

Wow, those clips sound pretty great. Dan Lutz's slapping doesn't sound that appealing to me (the guy on the bottom of the page sounds great with the bigger scoop), but his fingerfunk clip really rocks.
I love how they show what settings they actually used for them, instead of being mysterious ("it's allll in the fingers").

Now I wanna get an outboard preamp for my lakland.
I had almost decided on getting an onboard, too, to keep things simple. Would a passive bass with an outboard pre be considered "active?"

In a word..yes. If you are going into an amp another preamp, etc. It would be considered active. I have also heard the DI on these sends a pretty hot signal as well. I have one coming this week myself!

this is why I Never walk into GC or any other music store unless I am going in for strings etc...

I usually peruse the "wall of bass" but then realize I do not see anything I really want....because I KNOW I can get it from Lakland!

i'm open to other basses...but really only a certain style/pup config.

There are also makers who offer a different sound and aesthetic. I would love to try an Alleva, and I definitely would like a callowhill somewhere down the line.

But I'll always love my Laklands.

isn't that just a decibel buffer, tho? unless it's got something special on the active or passive circuit, i don't really see the point in using a different jack because you have an active or passive bass. you can just adjust the gain if input volume needs adjusting.

It's a -10 db pad button. Just wondering if my mind is playing trick on me thinking that the pad take away some of the dynamics.
