I've got a question about my Markbass CMD 121p. Maybe the Markbass guy here can answer:

I know that the amp is rated down to 4 ohms load. For those occasions where I need a little more than just the single 12 in the combo, I want to pair another cab with it. I'll get another 8 ohm 112 at some point, but what I have right now is a 500W 4 ohm 210 that I'd like to plug in. But that would put the load at about 2.67 ohms.

What would be the implication of doing that? Would it shut down on me at any level? Or would it only be a problem if running at max power? In other words, can I run at say 66% of max power, and operate ok? Would I hit 500W output at that lower master setting?

I know I could just disconnect the 12 in the combo and only drive the 210, but I'd hate to have that 12 sitting there unused. I'd like the 12 in the mix to help drive the low end.

Which brings to mind another question: assuming the amp can handle it, if you pair a 4 ohm with an 8 ohm cab, does the 4 ohm get 2/3 of the power and the 8 ohm only get 1/3? Thus, would the 4 ohm be twice as loud, so I wouldn't get much sound anyway from the 8 ohm? Edit: found the answer to this one in the FAQ. Yes, the 4 ohm would get twice the power.

If you run your combo head at 2.67, you will send it into overheating and shut it down. When Markbass says it requires at least a 4 ohm load, they are dead serious, and 2.67 isn't good enough.

+1. I never run a lower ohm load than the product specifies, whether it's Markbass or any other amplifier I've used. I've heard a lot of nightmarish stories about people frying their amps that way.

Good luck working out what you're going to run your combo with, 8ohm cabs are the easiest to find. Have fun with it!

Can I have a number? I walked into a St. Louis GC last night looking to get a speakon cable (which they didn't have and wouldn't provide) for the Shuttle 6.0 a friend let me borrow. I was going to run the Shuttle head with the GB 112 for a set or two and then try my Avatar 210 with it. Anyway I saw a used SA450 for $375. Add $100 for tax and warranty and I got it for $479. I played the Shuttle for two sets last night and then pulled out the SA450 for the third set. Let's just say I MUCH preferred the Markbass. couldn't be happier with it. It's going to do a more than ample job of replacing my Ampeg V4b. And I've started lifting weights this past week to compensate for no longer using the V4b. I do have to give major props to the GB 112 on the Shuttle Combo.

Nice! The SA450 is wonderful. Man, some great post NAMM deals on some of this stuff at GC. Excellent!!!!

I have the CMD 102P. Absolutely love it btw. I got it used with no manual. I've heard that you are supposed to turn the gain up until it clips, then adjust the master. When you initially turn up the gain to find this clipping point, is the master off completely? I've never gotten mine to clip yet.

I love the sound as it is. I don't want to fix what's not broken. But I do want to set it correctly.

The manual recommends that you turn the master volume off, then play your bass as you normally would while adjusting the gain. Keep turning it up until the clip light comes on, then slowly back it off until the clip light no longer lights up. Then just adjust your master volume as needed.

+1 to the above post... just turn the master down so that you aren't blowing out your ears, and then play as hard as you ever would on your open E string. With your other hand, set the pre gain just below the level where the clip light blinks.

Also, you can download the full manuals for an MB product from their website.

Here's my recently acquired Little Mark II and Standard 104HR. I absolutely love this rig! It has so much more definition than my old Peavey 15" combo, it's sick. I couldn't be happier.

picked up a minimark a couple weeks ago at GC for 499.00 couldnt pass it up. what a sweet little amp.

I know you can hook up another 8 ohm can to it, is there a particular cab that would be best in this regard? has anyone on here used an extension cab with the minimark and if so, which one?
