I think we all can agree that at the end of the day it's pretty shady how rickenbacker does business regarding it's numbers.

they have every right, sure (FREEDOM!) but still, shady.

a question: does rickenbacker sell left instruments anymore?

I called a fourth time, and wasn't so nice this time. They finally credited me the $129. I didnt curse, I didn't yell, i just remained steadfast and asked them (repeatedly) if I was a liar or crazy since I knew for a fact that other people who had ordered august 1st got the additional 10%. They agreed to do it, but insisted that I was the only person to have used that coupon on a ric:rollno:

Btw, still loving this thing!

Loving the sounds I can get from mine, but having an issue... Following Joeys instructions for setup, and using the strings as a flat edge, I got my neck pretty perfectly straight, and raised the strings for proper action... But it seems my A string is a tad lower than the rest. You can kinda tell by looking down the strings at different angles, and it's buzzing on 2nd n 3rd frets. Any other bass I'd just raise it, but obviously not so easy on this guy without bring my E string way up.

Any suggestions?

You could raise that side of the bridge so as to make the A string correct, then file down the E string nut slot ever so slightly until you're happy with the E string height.

Following up. I posted earlier about receiving my Ric with a cracked case. (Replacement case shipped!)

I got it home last night and had a chance to take a closer look today. It is a 2010 and definitely appears to be new stock. The finish was flawless and I could not find any noticeable imperfections. As others have said, I can also see the joints where the body wings are glued to the neck-through body. No worries for me. The binding is pure white - no yellowing at all.

The action is high, I will have to adjust, but despite that, it is fun to play and it sounds great.

There is however a minimum quantity of instruments that you must order per year, but since it's less than the number of models RIC has, it's obvious you can stock whatever you want in any available color or quantity. Maybe they have tons of all the colors but just want to get rid of the one's they have the most of first and when those are gone they'll do that to the next highest amount they have in inventory. God knows the price is so good many who would rather have gotten Maple or Fire Glo got the Midnight because the price was just too good to pass up. Maybe MF had all the GC stores send them all their RIC that have been sitting around for over a year and haven't sold.

Guitar Center hasn't been a RIC dealer for a few years now. They had their franchise pulled, in part, because they were selling the instruments returned within the 30 day waiting period as new, and charging you for the case if you wanted it, even though they were included by RIC.

Good idea, I didn't think of that. Thanks dude. Ironically this bass seems hard to set up, but the tone kills so I don't care. I think mine was one of the older / rougher kept, cuz the bindings are pretty yellowed, and like I said it's takin a couple days for the setup to sink in. I'll get some pics up in a minute of the binding. Still sounds killer n I don't plan on sending it back.

For those saying RIC makes a dealer order all finishes, I highly doubt it. I don't think I've seen a single MID instrument at Wildwood Guitars, and some strange finishes appear there sometimes like green and purple. Most of their stuff is FG and MG.

For those saying RIC makes instruments that aren't ordered, I doubt that too. Everything is built to order per what the retailer/dealer wants (and possibly customers through them), and MF likely ordered too many and sold too few of the MID 4003s, hence the sale. They are too backlogged to make instrument no retailer has committed to buy.

Lastly... can we not make this thread about speculation of their business practices? I want to hear more about these MID 4003s.

On the purple, are you talking about the 4004 I saw there last February? If so, that one was ordered transluscent blue but faded to purple due to the UV coming through the west facing window;)

I too thought it was a custom color until I asked.
