That's because some don't know that they're on sale.:scowl:

True in this models case, but that's because Ric hold their value better than most basses. It would be very easy for many here to use their new Rics for three of four months and sell them for 1500.00 +. There will always be someone that will buy a newer Ric for that price.

Any issues with the 2011's so far?

Not with mine, it's a beaut!
I'm still getting used to the neck profile, it's much fatter than my G&L and Geddy Lee Jazz(Anything would be fatter than the Geddy Lee!;))
So far so good though. I did the pickup cover surgery this weekend with no problems. Funny note. When I sold my 2003 4003 I left the Schaller straplocks on the strap I was using at the time and put it away.So this weekend I grabbed the strap and clicked them back on this 4003. Was it fate? :eyebrow:

The scratches turned out to be left over polishing compound, rubbed it off looks good now.

Attached is the pic of the paint damage around the bridge. Could this the product of poor storage conditions? If so, how?

The box looked factory sealed, staples never opened. Shipped to MF from Ric March 2011 based on a sticker on the box. The strings are dead as well, can't figure that out either.

I looked at that pic as best I could. Possibility they put the bridge on before the paint fully cured? The pictures that many are posting here, shows a very serious QC issue at Rickenbacker.

If John Hall is indeed monitoring this thread, (as one tber suggested) I hope he gets a handle on the problem.

One or two basses, ok.....but not this many and with all the same kind of shoddy workmanship.

My thoughts exactly. That it left the factory looking like that is unforgivable. Squire Indonesia wouldn't even ship a bass with that bad of a finish blem and try to sell it as new.

I think in a week or two when everyone gets their replacements in, we should all get back together and compare the final products. Personally, I can forgive a QC slip if they fix their goof. So far anyone who ordered a replacement has been satisfied, which makes me confident I will also get a keeper.

It is odd that Ric is allowing so many blemished instruments to even roll out of the factory. But how in the crap are they all in midnight blue, and being sold in this lot?? You'd think if they consistently produced these problem instruments, the Ric name would be heavily tarnished. BUT, if all the Rics with problems were, say, from between Feb-Mar 2010, they could have just had some crappy workers in the factory in that period who did a shoddy job, who have been fired / cleaned up their act by the time the 2011's were produced. Maybe thats just a bum lot of basses.

Great idea. Good point on QC also.

On the Squier Jaguar Short Scale thread some people had small flaws with the finish but dismissed them because they only paid between $144 & $169. It's a different scenerio with these Rics.

Ordered 8/2, received a 2011 bass. No problems here! I checked over the whole thing repeatedly.

That's great news. Enjoy it. :bassist:

These basses are a 2k bass. Yes, there is a price reduction on them now, but they still will, or have sold at 2k. There is no excuse for the sloppy workmanship and lack of QC that I have seen here among these few examples(in the big picture) of new basses. Rickenbacker hopefully will be doing a QC tune up as these numerous examples show problems over at the factory.

Again, I never got a bad Ric except for setup issues. If this is the standard of quality that they have dropped to, I won't buy over the net. I would need to see and play one first.

I am still taking another shot at a rick , I dig the sound and personally I perfer big necks.
I just wish GC carried these then I could go pick out a nice one and have them price match it. MF is charging tax to us Calif's now so their tax wouldn't matter. Are there any music stores in So. Cal who carry Rics in the Showroom?
