Seems like there is something funny going on ranging from ones that already are out of warranty on the finish to other types of blems/defects. Being under fluorescent lighting non-stop for a year could explain the yellowed binding so I wonder if MF was amassing floor demos or customer returns from other dealers?

Mine didn't have a scratch on it. Looked totally minty.

It's been suggested several times that these may have been customer returns. I don't believe this is the case.

My Ric shipped in the Factory Box, with factory staples and no sign of having been previously opened. I've heard others mention this as well.

Has anyone received a shipment that was obviously opened before you got it?

Hmmm, that might be an easy one to explain. If you go back over posts regarding the finish on other Rick sites, you will see that they switched from conversion varnish (which yellows) to a non yellowing UV cured polyester finish around a year ago. My guess is that the ones that are yellowing actually have the old cv finish on them, so they yellow over time.

I also want to throw this out there.

If these were indeed being sold as new but were used retunrs as the ceo John Hall of rickenbacker stated , then wouldnt he himself revoke there dealership?

Guitar center lost their dealership for selling cases for extra , if MF was selling used basses as new , as John Hall stated , isnt that worse?

So Mr Hall , are you investigating this? wouldnt you do that if your product was being represented wrongly? or are you stating this "rumour" as a way to explain these issues .

im lost... i just checked MF and Ricks are the same cost they were when i bought mine 3 years ago... what sale is going on?

edit: wait a sec.... the blue ones are $1300?! =_= WAY cheaper than my jetglo from 3 years ago lol

Are you already forgetting that the basses were sold for $1300?

John Hall did not say these basses were returns. He speculated that they MIGHT be. As Sgt.Friday once said..."Just the facts ma'am."

If that is the case, I hope he and his company is inquiring as to the origin of these "mystery" basses. It seems a bit improvident for a CEO to speculate in such a way in a public forum, no? Especially given the many QC problems that have been identified with this batch alone. If I were him, I would want to get to the bottom of it and make a definitive statement.

Exactly

1169$ for me and no. It was a sale , not used. DO you not know how MF lists there used stuff? they dont list it as on sale they list it as used.

These are all new basses.

Scratch and dent to be exact.

And I believe that everyone that has received a bass, has either implied or stated that it was in a sealed unopened box from Ricenbacker.

Objection, your honor, irrelevant. These were represented and sold as NEW stock by a RIC dealer. The price is immaterial.

What about the warranty? Many have expired on the paint.

That is a good question. What happens to a buyer who has purchased a RIC that has sat around a dealer's shop for over a year? Is the buyer just out of luck?

Not a scratch on it ..Binding is pure white..No polishing compound..Tuned it up..Neck is pretty straight.
Sticker on box is dated 11/24/2010..Case is perfect. Guess I got a good one. The color looks much better in person. At first I was kinda leery but I figured the price was right. If I didnt like it I figured I could get it refinished or something..I'm thinking a black PG + nameplate would really pop on this thing....

A Step Towards' words are 100% true. Can we please stop debating it?

Is anybody a member on the Rickenbacker forums? I would love to hear an official explanation of this whole deal... like I said, I'm holding judgement until its all said and done, because if I get a money sweet Ric for $1150 I'm happy. But would be very curious to know the circumstance of these basses and how they made it out of the Ric factory and into the MF warehouse, as the noted flaws seem to be related to both Ric and MF alike.
