Sounds like the guys installing nuts / polying fretboards / applying finishes / building the necks were stoned on the job between Feb and March in 2010. The 2011's have been, I think, unanimously awesome.

Seeing the lines doesn't bother me, but being able to clearly feel them does. It makes me think that the pieces weren't glued together precisely or tightly enough and there was some separation before it was painted. Looking at it again, it's the joint down the middle between the two piece neck that stands out the most. I really hate to go through the hassle and gamble of exchanging this, but I'm worried about future problems plus the effect it would have on resale value if I ever decide to sell the bass in the future. As I mentioned in another post, the only other flaws are some tail lift and some excess glue on a short portion of the fingerboard. Anyone think I should exchange it?

Hey everyone, couldn't get in on the new Ricks due to lack of fundage, but just wanted to post that my '85 4003 has visible lines that you can feel where the wings join, but only on the back (not visible on the front of the bass). This problem did not get worse with age.

Nope, mine's a March of 2011 model - seemingly one of the newest ones folks got. Re-posting another pic of the finish blem around the bridge.

Hmm, thats unfortunate. Did it set up well? Did you have any issue with the neck or the nut?

Didn't even try, I'm not keeping it with a defect like that.

I'm surprised about all the finish/glue comments. I've played over two dozen Rics, the majority made after 2005, and I have NEVER seen or even heard of this before, especially the comments about yellow binding and excess glue. I looked all my (four) personal Rics over and none have this stuff going on. I don't own any blue Rics though... I think it's ridiculous to make fun of blue instruments like some have but I will freely admit it is my last personal choice of finish.

I cannot feel the seams where the neck meets the body, but I can see it, even in my opaque white bass, in the right lighting environment. I can even see that my white bass has a three-piece neck from the back, again in direct lighting. I don't think this is a need for concern, for those of you wondering.

Not being sarcastic btw. Do you mean that small gap between the body and bridge at the corner? Or the odd reflective pattern on the side of the bridge?

Its looks to be lifting.

I like how people rip on gibsons for being overpriced , when a t bird is about 500$ less , similar in hardness to build and i have owned 5 recently and never seen these problems.

If his is like mine was, it's not a reflection. The paint is bubbled and raised.

I've highlighted the area in the attached pics. Much easier to see in real-life 3D, but it's like buzz-saw pattern divets.

Not many blue basses in the spotlight being played. I am RIC owner, first a FG not the brownish version available now but the more yellow/red-ish colour of past. The bass played fine but the colour bothered me, looked like I was playing on a Royal Caribbean cruise ship. I sold it and got a JG, now that's rock n'roll.

I know the price is right argument its a good one but at the end of the day, which in this case will be about 3 months for those Midnite blue RICs to start hitting the resale bins, that will be just before someone starts talking about refinishing the blue RIC to a more standard colour.

Midnight Blue is nice to hang on your wall or store in your closet or for a good lounge/wedding band. The only blue bass in rock n'roll is Lake Placid blue. Just an opinion but check to see how many major players are rocking blue basses, the colour is best suited for guitars than bass. Remember there is always a reason for the blowout sale. ConGrats all you new RIC owners and welcome.

Just for point of information, I ordered mine on 8/1, and received a bass manufactured in July of 2010. I went over it with a fine-tooth comb, and i guess I lucked out. Everything is perfect save for the -slightest- bit of tail-lift, which as I understand it is normal. Also, oddly enough, my binding on my neck is slightly a creamier shade of white than the body binding. I'm enjoying the heck out of mine, and just have to build up the courage to bring it to some of the dives I gig at! Good luck to everyone waiting on/exchanging theirs!

Mine's a February 2011. Haven't noticed some of the problems that are being mentioned in this thread but, being inexperienced with Ricks, I did take my bass to someone who knows what he's doing to setup. Will report back once it's done!
