Finally got my VMT today through a transaction in the classifieds. Nice pedal! I haven't settled on any specific sounds yet--I need more time with it before I find what I like--but I've noticed one thing immediately. I played through my Jazz bass '62 reissue, as well as my 5-string Spector EuroLX, and the pedal seems to work more effectively with the J-bass but much more subtly with the Spector (which is active with two humbucking pups). I am a big fan of minimalist pedal boards and like to keep it stupid and simple. Therefore I have a PT nano with just a tuner and a compressor and since yesterday the VMT. It will replace the VT Bass DI which will serve as a backup DI box.

My pedal order is 1. Polytune, 2. VMT and 3. Multicomp. The compressor and the VMT will be 'always on'. I find this thread quite interesting as it helps me to come closer to my preferred VMT settings. What I am searching for is a low gain sound with a tiny little bit of overdrive, warm and compressed. Thanks for starting this thread and keep posting your settings.

Am I correct when I say that the less drive I dial in the less affect the ERA knob has?

I'm curious as to how you guys get any od with the drive below 2 o'clock? I play passive Ps, Js and Rics and anything below 2 o'clock is pretty much perfectly clean.

I'm running an active jazz into a tube amp so I've probably got some gain going already.

Wow- that's surprising! My Ric is by far my lowest output bass and I can get noticeable grit with the Gain around 11 o'clock when I dig in or around 12:30 or above for a more constant drive. With my P or J I can get audible drive with the Gain even lower. What are/were you playing it through?

This is where I ended up at the end of last night. Really liked my tone at this setting for the Zeppelin, rage, tool, etc type stuff we were doing.

Used the markbass Compressore as a functional limiter as I've found that it blunts some of the tonality of the VMT if the threshold is too low.

I'm always amazed at the power of the Era knob to shift the tone right into the right spot. It is fairly subtle when you are playing by yourself, but at least IME in a mix a little turn of the knob in either direction starting around noon to 1o'clock can really be that last little bump I need for my tone! When I first got my VMT I would always dime the Era control, but after a while I found my favorite tones to love in the specific mid characters in the middle areas of the sweep.
