Official Orange Club II

What made you prefer the 140? I had an AD140TC (a different amp, I know) and kept always going back to the AD200B, so I sold it to a friend. I might still profile the TC though.

I have the "other" OBC210 (the one that looks like the OBC115) and find it very similar to the 410 sound wise, just less loud.

You have the OBC210, do you also have the OBC115?

I think I scored a good deal on a new old stock OBC210, at $650 (the tax and shipping makes it less than a stellar deal, but I imagine these are not easy to come by). I also have a OBC115. I'm curious, if you have both, how you feel about one vs the other.

I have the 210 and had the 115. I used to have two 115, but they didn't fit my sound anymore. I needed more definition and a quicker cab, so I traded the 115 for a 210 to pair with my 410. I sold the other one and got an OB1-500 if I remember correctly. I sold that one too, and regret it sometimes, it worked great as a recording amp.

Does anyone know what the Eminence drivers are that come in the OBC210? Of the current available drivers that Eminence has on their website the Basslite SC10-16 seem to be the ones that would give an 8 ohm load at 300 w, but they are designed for sealed cabs and the OBC 210 is a ported cab?

Seems like the delta 10b would be the best for this cab

Has anyone run a dual Orange amp setup? I have a Bass Terror head that would be run into a 1x15 and provide relatively clean low end in this hypothetical, then a guitar head into a 1x12 with tweeter set to high gain, with the bass rolled off.

I'd considered this with something like the Dark Terror or Rocker, but my gut is telling me that a 15w valve amp just isn't going to have th kick to compare to the bass side.

I did something similar, just not with an Orange guitar head, too. Using my Rickenbacker, I'd do the stereo rig setup; Terror Bass for the neck pickup into a 112 bass cab, then it was an Epiphone Valve Senior (18w Marshall-style clone) into a 112 guitar cab for the bridge pickup. I'd run the bridge pickup with its lows cut via the push/pull knob on the bass so as not to overwhelm the poor guitar speaker, especially since all the lows were coming from the Orange side anyways.

Sounded totally righteous, and was a really well balanced setup, volume-wise. The Epiphone had no problem keeping up with the Orange. However, I feel it'd be wrong to assume you'll also being using the kinda quirky Rickenbacker dual-rig; what are your plans/intentions?

EDIT: Be careful; tweeters and hi-gain don't often make for good bedfellows! Maybe try and find a more full-range cab that doesn't need the tweeter?

Thanks for the info! Wouldn't be using a Rick style setup myself, would be a standard bass with the signal split between the two amps. Would be aiming for one aggressive, distorted tone from the guitar head, and cleans & lows from the bass head. Would I get much benefit from it that I wouldn't have by putting a distortion with clean blend in front of the Terror Bass, and running that into both cabs? Probably not, in a band mix. But it does sound fun.

The 1x12 cab I'd be using is a Barefaced Super Compact, so definitely full range enough. The tweeter may not be remotely necessary but is an option.

Bi-Amping is the idea behind the Orange OB1 and the Orange Butler.
I have run a Bass into my Setup (AD200B and OBC410 + OBC210) and simultaneously into my friend's (Thunderverb 50 and PPC410) and also with an AD140TC I used to have. I also did the Rick thing with that setup. I think more wattage for the "guitar part" is indeed important to get a better sound and you have to handle the frequencies right.
In my opinion, with a normal bass, I think the Bi-Amp in the Box is a better alternative in most situations (Butler or OB1).
For Rick-o-Sound or Wet/Dry, I would go with more wattage and more speakers on the wet (or dirty) part.
For recording, I would simply re-amp with different setups and EQ accordingly. Modeling is a good way to keep errors at minimum, just get a good clean DI in and go nuts in the DAW. I do miss the DI of the OB1 as a recording amp though.

Question, looking for opinions from experience:

Outdoor gig, loud'ish rock, no stage, setup directly on asphalt patio outside a brewery/restaurant, no FOH, PA is only for vox and maybe kick. Three piece, guitar using Orange 50w with full stack. My options are:

'73 SVT on the 810e
or
Orange AD200 on OBC115 and OBC210 which are both ported cabs. The 210 has been updated with more sensitive Beta 10B drivers so, on paper, it should be equal in sensitivity/volume to the Kappa 15a in the 115, but maybe more low mid, which should be a plus! I have yet to run them together.

My question isn't about power as much as ported vs sealed. Will I get more mileage outdoors from ported cabs?

Why not the AD200B on the Ampeg 810? I've done it a few times with great results.

Orange and Ampeg go quite well together actually. I do like the sound of the AD with an Ampeg Fridge or a Fender Neo.

Anyone ever run bass into a Rockerverb for a high gain type vibe? I have a 100 mk iii for guitar and I want to try it with bass but I would have to acquire an 8 ohm cab.

It sounds good to me for dirty overdubs, volume is low, but that's no problem in recording. Live it would probably just not cut it though.

Had an impromptu jam at the office yesterday afternoon. I keep this Orange Crush 50 and O Bass in my office for just such occasions. The amp held its own with drums, guitar, keys, vocals and the occasional harmonica.

I would second this. I've only run my AD200 into an 810 when it was provided backline but the pair sounded pretty good together. I've had real hit or miss experience with fender/hiwatt tone stacks and 810s but the AD200 worked for me. If you're worried about the combination of cabs this removes that worry.

In regards to sealed vs ported, I'm usually a sealed cab with a tube amp kind of guy but I've gone with all small ported cabs these days. Have a custom ported 212, ported berg 210, and a barefaced 210 which is ported and has their special baffle design. All of them sound great with the orange and can kick out a good deal of bottom in a small form factor without getting too flubby on the low end like some ported cabs can. But outdoors with no PA and a loud(ish) band with a 50 watt full stack for the guitar amp? I'd go with the 810.

I have the same Grape Crush 50, Like it a lot. Mine does hum a bit tho, but I have learned to ignore it.

How do you like the O-Bass?
No hum from my amp unless I crank the crush up :roflmao:

First gen O Bass is better than I expected, but still an inexpensive China produced bass. I put flats on it and it sounds like an P Bass with flats. But then, imagine the worst neck dive you've ever experienced, multiply by 1000, that's this bass - especially with the strap I have on it. However, it serves the purposes - something to noodle on in my rare free moments, a minute or two of bass zen on a particularly hectic or stressful day, a conversation piece on Zoom calls or with visitors and always at the ready if a jam breaks out.

I have a black Crush 50. No hum here, I'm wondering if the hum is somehow because it's a slightly different model? I thought just the color was different.

Anyway, I find it to be a great practice amp which could be used in a light duty gigging situation.

Since the SVT and 810 are at my rehearsal space that is literally "across the street" from the venue, I decided to go the easy route and go full Ampeg. I figure I can't lose, and combined with my Lollar equipped '95 Thunderbird, there should be more than enough there to handle keeping up with the drummer and Rockerverb 50 full stack that the guitarist is using.
