Official Orange Club II

The OBC line of cabs were meant for the AD200B, and they are vented. I have two OBC115’s and they sound phenomenal with that amp. I used to be a “ sealed cab is a must for tube amps “, until I tried the OBC’s. In fact, I plan on using that very combo at a radio station fundraiser gig tonight

At the moment I have the 115 and 210, and the 115 is definitely louder and clearer than the stock 210, at least based on my lower volume test. I swapped the 16ohm OEM Legend BP102’s out of the 210 for some Beta 10b, which are more sensitive, and it definitely woke the cabinet up, making it a little louder and clearer, and my hope is to get a little more low/mids and middle out of it when used with the 115 which will definitely give all the lows I could want. It will be awhile before I can test my theory, as the head and 115 are at one rehearsal space, upstairs, and the 210 is at home. I’d need to bring everything to my other rehearsal space where there’s more room and it is more set up similar to a live situation.

The OBC115 is a TL606 clone right? Tried and true design, not super heavy on the low end, shouldn’t get too boomy with a tube head.

OBC115 below an OBC210. I swapped the Eminence Legend based 10’s out with Beta 10B’s and (so far) am pretty happy with the results, I really need to get this setup in a good room and mess with it alone. But outdoors, while sound checking I could definitely hear a better balance between the two cabs volume wise and it sounded pretty huge. I think I needed to dial in the HPF a little better but I know I could definitely be heard, with no complaints about the bass overpowering anything.

I can’t say gigging, but, for a few months I was using my AD200 and OBC115 at my studio and was rather happy with it, up against two guitars, and a loud drummer. Then this week, I left the 115 home and brought the 210, not expecting it to sound as good as the 115. Surprisingly to me it really did a good job. Still sounded big and full and even got a bit of clarity with the horn switch on “low”, with any harshness.

*disclaimer, I did swap out the stock Eminence 10’s for Eminence Beta 10B’s

Ultimately I think the 115 is a better sounding cab on its own. It’s a huge sounding cabinet, and does a great job of projecting mids and highs. Easily the best sounding 1x15 cabinet I’ve ever had. I think there must be a reason Orange discontinued the OBC210 but still has the 115 available new.

Have a pic of the head on the 210 alone?

Also, know of anyone running the AD through Ampeg 210AV’s?
Would love to see pics.

I think I’m going to pair it with a pair of 210’s.

No pics with just one cab and head.

I would be sure you speak to people that have had the 210AV’s. I believe they are sealed cabs and I hear they are not the deepest sounding cabinets.

I’ve come to believe that lower power heads (20-200w) benefit from ported cabinets with sensitive speakers.

An Ampeg 212AV is a good match with the AD200MK3, it has 2 x 12” drivers and is a vented/ported cab.

I use them quite regularly together. A bit lacklustre against a loud 4 piece setup (coming from it combined with the OBC410), but plenty for the usual small gig. In that case I just bring the LBT though. I can’t imagine a situation where I would take the AD and not the 410 or simply take the LBT if I want something smaller.

I really wouldn't recommend this; this 210AVs are not truly gig-worthy IMHO. I had a pair for a couple years, and they just had no balls on them. The low end was so lacking, no matter what I tried. Sold them both and don't regret it. Mind you, the cabs are light as hell, and are perfect for home playing, just not gigs. Probably a pair of them still weigh less than the AD! Lol.

The 212AVs on the other hand... *whole* other ballgame. They absolutely crush.

I used my 212av for a gig with the AD200. The opening band used my rig. One of my bands was the 2nd band(E standard tuned hard rock, used a Gibson Thunderbird), and my other band played last(D standard and drop C tuned with a double P pickup Precision).

The AD200 was handicapped because it had a driver stage problem that I wasn’t aware of until a couple weeks later when I had my amp guy look at it. Turns out it was only putting out about 130 clean watts. Even with that, on top of the 212AV, it held its own against all the guitar players gear, including an Orange Rockerverb 50 snd 4x12 and some hard hitting drummers.

BUT, the OBC115 is still actually a better sounding cabinet to me that the 212, and the OBC210 by itself sounds really good in my studio, but probably not as good as the 212av did when I was using it.

Both the OBC115 and OBC210 together is pretty impressive.

But, if you can find a 212AV for a good price, I would recommend it for sure.

…well, there you go.

I have a ‘73 SVT and 810 in my studio, which used to come out for gigs, and I did just use it for an outdoor gig a month or so ago. Then a few weeks later my other band played the same place and I used to AD200 and OBC115 and OBC210. From this point forward the orange rig will be my gigging rig. Until I downsize again when I am older and need to go even lighter.

I went with the AD because of the weight and size. It’s much easier to move solo versus the svt.
