Official Orange Club II

I was surprised too. I had to do a double check and make sure it was the reissue.
I had a gear card rewards discount so I got it for a little over $600 shipped and it still had the tags on it!
Maybe they returned it because of the screw?
I'm loving the tone I m getting so far but especially the small footprint. Now I get to sell my Rumble 500 head and meatsmoke preamp.

Another question, whats my best option for headphone practice? Do you have any recommendations for a headphone amp and where does it go in my chain?

If you don't want a cabsim, the Old Blood Noise Endevors headphone amp works like a charm. I'd put it at the end of my chain .if you want cabsim, I've heard great things about the Mooer Radar cabsim pedal.

So I dont run i

Just to be clear the headphone amp does not get plugged into the Orange amp therefore does not get any of the orange tube tone tone, right?

I'm not 100% sure, but I think if you put the headphone pedal in the effect send of your bass head, you could then get the preamp tone in that pedal. but you wouldnt be able to send the signal back to the effects return to hear your bass through the cabinet AND the headphone pedal. Unless you can find a headphone pedal that has 2 outputs, one for the amp and one for the headphones.

Again, I'm not 100% sure this would work, but it makes sense in my head.

EDIT: I think if you put one of these in your effects loop, you could just turn the amp master volume down all the way and use the headphone out on this pedal and you'd be set:

here's a good video review I found of the pedal. I think I just convinced myself to buy one... thanks

Nice! The fact that they are currently running their 36 months for used gear promotion makes that a no-brainer. I hope you enjoy it! Honestly, if I were only going with one Orange head, I would have stuck it out with the Terror Bass. The only reason I returned it was because I opted for both a 4 Stroke and an OB1, as one band calls for all clean, and the other is all dirty, and while the TB does both, you are kind of limited due to the single channel nature. But the clean switch helps a lot with that complaint, and it's really a much better amp than the original IMO.

What's your current chain? My only headphone amp is one of those Vox Amplug things that doesn't require a chain or anything, just an output jack and headphone jack, so I'm not sure where you are coming from.

Thanks for the reply, is there any significant benefit from cabsim?
Sorry for all the questions I used to use the headphone out on my previous amps so this is all new to me.

I've only used a cabsim once, and it does what it says. It simulates the EQ that different cabinets will give you bass tone. Such as an 8x10 making your bass sound thicker and punchier. After using a cabsim, i dont think I could play in a headphone rig without one again. It just makes the bass sound "real".

I actually have about 4 new pedals that should be delivered today (!!!) so its going to change real soon but its the normal tuner - fuzz - octave - dirt - modulation then Terror amp into 2x12

Are you trying to get a headphone amp for after the amp so you can hear yourself through the amp without disturbing others? Or just something to monitor your basic signal? Because I've never tried the former, but if it's just a signal you are after, why not use one of those Vox Amplugs? You could probably convert the signal previous to the amp by using another preamp pedal of some sort, like the headphone out on the Tech 21 Bass Fly Rig. What are you trying to capture?

Also, score on the 4 new pedals! Whadja get?

Yes this is what I would like to do. Similar to a headphone out on a regular amp, where the output to the speaker would be muted when headphones are connected.

Broughton Audio Synth Voice octaver, Old Blood Noise Black Fountain delay, Trembling Fish analog optical tremolo and Moog MF101 Lowpass Filter plus Earthquaker Devices Transmisser reverb (coming on Saturday).
Its gonna get real freaky this weekend!!

Hmm, maybe grab a mixer and run everything into it? Or if you a bit more tech savvy, grab a USB audio interface and plug it into your PC/Mac. In both cases, you'd want to run the DI out to the interface/mixer, though not sure if you'd be able to mute the cab playback or not. I've never really tried to listen directly to an amp through headphones before, so I'm just guessing.

Yea I'm going to have to experiment.
Just to be safe though, these amp always need a speaker connected when powering on correct?

Tonight was fun.

Usually class D amps don't, but this amp may be different because it's a valve preamp.

The TB needs a load.
In the webpage of the 4-Stroke is stated that it can work without a speaker, but in the manual says you have to connect it.
The manual and website of the OB1 state that it needs a load, even if it has the same output as the 4-Stroke.
I already wrote Orange to clear this up, still waiting for an answer.
But yeah, the Terror has to be always connected, so you need a load box or another amp.

Interested to hear back regarding this. For many years 99% of the heads that have solid state power supplies do not need a load when operating, while at least 99% of the heads having tube power supplies do need a load when operating.
Preamp sections don't enter into the whole 'load / no load' equation.

It has a lot to do with the output transformer and the power section architecture. A lot of SS amps have output transistors instead of tranformers.
The preamp would be sending voltage to the output which would be running on infinite resistance and it would look for the path of least resistance. Depending on the architecture, it would translate it to no current OR it might fry your fuse, your OT, your pre amp, your power stage or everything.

After some research on headphone amps and cabsim I found that Orange makes a overdrive pedal that can be used as a headphone amp with cabsim.

The Getaway Driver!
product description:
The Getaway Driver is an amp-in-a-box type pedal with just three dials – Volume, Bite (tone) and Gain. While the pedal adds its vintage vibe on all amplifiers, it really excels when used with the amplifier's clean channel, even ones with a bright cap. It also makes a great clean boost, with low Gain and high Volume pushing amps over the edge into classic overdrive.
The pedal features the same transparent, buffered output used on the Orange Two Stroke and Kongpressor pedals.
While the second output is a buffered Cab Sim/headphone amp which can also work into a PA (via a DI box) or directly into a recording interface. The first output is transparent when bypassed, however, when using the second output, the Cab Sim remains engaged. This means that the Getaway Driver can be used as just a Cab Sim on its own if needed.

The drive sounds great when used with bass too
Bass Demo

Sounds like I found what I was looking for.
