So after playing the Terror I started inspecting the unit, and found this:

I don't know how I could have missed that when I pulled the unit out of the box. It plays fine, so at first, I thought I'd just keep it. Then I thought to check the tubes to make sure that whatever shock caused the dent, didn't dislodge them. Some of the screws were really tight, and were difficult to remove, and then I couldn't get them back in. The case was so dis-formed, that the holes didn't line up.

The whole thing is odd, as the shipping box was sealed with Orange tape, and there was no apparent damage to the box. I can only imagine the damage occurred during packing up the unit at the factory.

In any event, I decided to exchange it for an undamaged unit, so it got shipped back to MF. They paid for return shipping, and the return was a smooth transaction. Not sure how long it'll take to get the replacement.

Bummer!

That's not a new new design to improve air flow? Like a mid century modern wave of some sort?

I have the original Terror Bass 1000 I bought direct from Orange as a factory refurbished unit for around $600. They told me the caps were factory upgraded, but also mentioned there was some minor cosmetic damage. When I received it, the side vent was dented in almost like yours :roflmao:.

The screws that hold the case together are dogs, may even have been Loctited in from the factory. I wanted to fix the dent and tube roll, so an easy opening case was a must. I eventually bought a more robust allen head type of black machine screws and retapped the holes as the new ones I bought were a hair larger. I also bent the side vent perfectly flat without cracking the paint, so all looks good as new.

So what are your initial impressions? How does it compare to the original? If I were to buy another Orange would probably go for the 4 Stroke 500. Seems like the Orange take on a TFunk.

The new Terror Bass can very much do everything that the old one did, but it also has the option of driving a clean signal to higher volume levels. In addition, the DI has been padded back significantly. The sound tech didn't want to try the DI because of problems he's had in the past with way too hot of a signal from the older Terror Bass and Tiny Terror, but he said the new one was perfect. I had plenty of headroom, and played it mostly clean all night. Very impressed, so far!

That certainly sounds promising. You guys happen to have the new cabinets in for review as well?
