Official Orange Club II

Should sound nice and fat either way!
Cool, thanks! Yeah I am hoping it will haha. I had the 4x10 but like I said it was so difficult to move on my own. I think 60lbs is more manageable. Do you think having the two 1x15's together with the Quilter be loud enough for a metal band? Two guitarists and a hard hitting drummer?

Saw your previous post of your rig. That is killer. Would like to get the Orange tube amp one day.

Thanks, LOVE my Orange setup. You'll have the wattage for sure. Haven't played Metal for years, but I feel pretty confident you'll have enough speaker as well.
Orange is great. Everyone always goes with Ampeg I feel. I always see their 8x10s being used at metal festivals but with DI these days what's the purpose of getting an 8x10? I do like the Orange 8x10 but it seems a bit overkill for my needs.

I've used my Terror Bass 500 and 4 Stroke 300 many times with two OBC 115's with my hard rock/metal band and it's more than enough. I can't imagine a band being too loud for that rig.

What concerns me about going that route is what do the mids and highs sound like with just that single (or two) 15 inch speakers?

The 4x10 sounded great, was ported at the back but like I said was 95lbs of heaviness.

I know Twiggy from Manson back in the day used a 4x10 with a 1x15 but seems many talkbass folks don't recommend mixing cabs.

Basically I'm just trying to find a good cab for hard rock/heavy metal but without breaking my back.

It's about 120lbs I reckon. Has the wheels but no skids.
The Orange 115s are pretty much a EV TL606 afaik... I reckon they'll do the job. And. . One for smaller shows :thumbsup:
I've got 2 Bassman 115s and I've never hit the rails when using them both. I have when using just one, that was using my Fender Super Bassman into 1 Bassman 115.
Sounded great, but no more clean volume on tap:hyper::bassist::hyper:

The Orange 15's are rock solid and great cabs. They use the Eminence Kappa 15 (or used to) so you won't have much top end as you would with the 4X10. They will get stupid loud.

Many people stack a 4X10 on a 15. A lot of these cabs are designed to work together.

It could be this question has been covered a few times, but I haven't found it with a quick search. With the orange Terror 500, is it practical to switch between the low gain and high gain setting on a gig? I hear there is a volume jump between the two settings, so I'm wondering if people have had luck with that. Or do most people who need to switch just use a separate pedal and leave the gain lower on the amp?

The switch only turns a resistor to ground on and off, so expect the corresponding volume loss at input. Use your bass volume pot if you have one.

With two 1x15 orange cabs… would that be loud enough for a modern Scorpions/Megadeth sound? Returned the 4x10 as it was too heavy to move on my own.

It depends. It is loud by any account. 15s are a bit less defined or "modern" than 10s to my ears though.

One other question: Is it true that the DI on the Orange Terror 500 is post EQ and volume only? Pretty sure heard this in a youtube demo. To me this sounds like a less than ideal setup if true.

It's post EQ and Master Volume, so FOH mostly hates it. But it is a bit better on the MKII compared to the MKI, so your sound guy might allow it.

Question for the Orange amp owners. If I buy two 1x15 cabs (400 watts, 8 ohms) will they combine to 800 watts 4ohms?

Is there any big benefit bumping up to 4ohms?

Thanks.

As others mentioned, it depends. They don't "really" become 800 watts and 4 ohms. But for practical purposes, yes.

Yes, the BB802 is 800 watts. So with the two speakon connectors on the Quilter.. you go from one into the first 1x15 and the second speakon spot into the second 1x15 correct? You don't daisy chain? It's sorta unclear on Orange's website since their diagram doesn't show the 1x15.

You can daisy chain OBCs, both 410s and 115s. Connect one OBC to the 4 ohm output of the head, and connect a second box to the first one.
I am not familiar with your head, but on an AD200B you would either connect each 115 to one of the 8ohm outputs or the chain to the 4 ohm output.

The OBC 115 puts out a lot of mids and low end, I've never had any issue with that. As for the highs, there are no tweeters and I am still not left wanting for more and I am a tweeter guy. So I really doubt you are going to have an issue getting enough high end through them unless you like ice pick treble. Then you probably might.

Noob question: my speaker cables have a Speakon end and a 1/4 Jack end. Can I use it for pluging into my interface for recording porpouses?

Depends. Some interfaces can handle the line level of a DI, some are built for instrument level only (aka: direct into the interface from your bass). The interface I have at home has one for both, and most should have both as well. They don't all, though, so just check to see if you have line level inputs on your interface

I have no idea of what that meando, but it's a Focusrite Scarlett solo, if that's any help.

If you mean can you run from the Speaker Out on your amp to the interface then no, you will most likely fry something.

The Focusrite can be set for Line or Instrument level. If you set it to Line and run an XLR from the DI Out then you can record the DI signal.

Otherwise you can get a DI that works with being between the amp and cab like the Countryman 85 or the Radial JDX.

Yeah, using the DI, not the speaker out. Sorry.

And now I get XLR cables are not the same with Speakon cables.
