I demo'd an Orange TB500 at an AZ GTG through a fEarful 1515 with an 8. It was mind blowing. Also demo'd the Orange Terror TB500 with my Bergantino AE410. Stunning, added some old school grunt and grind that was superb.

Been wanting one of these amps ever since. I tried a TB1000 and the power and volume of that thing was completely insane. I would never need that kind of power. The TB500 will be plenty!

How has the reliability been for the TB500 and TB1000's?

If you buy a TB500, I'd suggest you swap out the 12AX7s and put in 12AT7s. That way you don't break up quite so quickly. You really don't miss the gain you sacrifice and you get a much more usable range of tones.

This photo is just making me drool with envy.

A funny thing happened yesterday while I was at my local guitar shop picking up my instrument from being set-up. The Orange Reps were in town demo'ing their guitar amps. I stopped and listened and mentioned how cool the Terror TB500 was that I had tried once. The owner of the store pulled me aside and said; You know, they often bring gear and I can make an amazing deal.

Long story short .....I brought home a Terror Bass head TB500! Now I am on the quest for a killer pair of 1x12 cabs, or maybe try the SP212. I am playing a Nordstrand VJ5C 5 string Jazz bass doing everything from current/top40 like Alex Clare, Maroon 5, Jessie J, Carrie Underwood, to motown/R&B classics and old school funk, some blues and classic rock.

I do some slapping and popping, but don't live by those sounds. How would the SP212 be for this music mix? Will it still give a decent, sweet slap pop tone when needed for accents?

I use my TB500 with a SP212 and a 115. The sound is very deep and "vintagy". I do some slapping and I like it, but my sound isn't really too "trebly"... Highly recommended!!! Granted, they are heavy...:(

I recently swaped the 12ax7 for a 12au7 in the v1 stage of my terror bass.
lost a lot of output but the sound itself benefited a lot from it!
especially the eq was more usable and the low-end was tighter, but still crushing.

I am going to change the 12au7 to v2 or am going to use a 12at7 to get some volume back.

people having problems with the muddyness or the quick break up of the amp should try this!

I use a 5751 in V1 and have more clean but still can crunch like crazy. Gains for tubes are: 12ax7=100%, 5751=80%, 12at7=60%, 12au7=40%, 12ay7=20%. The 5751 was designed as a mil spec 12ax7, SRV used them in his first stage preamps.

Thanks for the recommandation,

Next weak I will try to work with what I have (the 12au7).

I dont need all the gain, I only need some crunch, the rest comes from pedals when needed.
A 12at7 is easier and quicker to get for me at the moment, however, I will keep in mind your recommandation!

Experience a better direct out with the TB1000 in contrast to the TB500?

Known issues with the TB500 are intermittent volume spikes etc... on the balanced output (which is what I send to the PA). If anyone has seen an improvement with the TB1000 please post it and let us know.... Thanks.

I used the DI output on my TB500 at two gigs recently. Worked great. No complaints from either soundman. Last night I did gig with my band using our own sound system and the output of the TB500 was too hot. The mixer (Yamaha) did not have individual channel attenuation or any way to pad the incoming signal. It was so hot that I was distorting Large Mackie Powered towers on top of EAW Powere subs. I wound up hitting the active push button on the front of the amp to tame my input signal. That helped a bit.

Iwill admit, that hot DI signal was a little challenging on a mixer with no input level pad. I have no idea if the TB1000 is any different however.. but I cannot imagine for the life of me who would need the volume onstage that the TB1000 puts out. The TB500 will peel your face back! LOL

Additionally, there are no DI output level controls on either TB500 or TB1000 that I am aware of. The DI Output is a fixed level. Apparently, it's a relatively hot signal. That can be a problem in some cases.
