OFFICIAL Post Your Jackson/Charvel Basses!

Both guitarists in my first "real" band had late 80's/early 90's Charvels with humbuckers.....killer g**tars that sound great to this day. I opened up one of them a few years ago and IIRC, it had a Jackson J-90? at the bridge.

I still think they're hugely underrated. The advantage is if you're a hard rock player in this region, they're an option for a great playing instrument that isn't a Fender, Gibson or PRS. Those are EVERYWHERE here. At least my 4B is kinda unique in that you don't see 'em in every dang store in the region.

the only thing I can say about a j40 humbucker is that I also have one in my 2b...lol

That's a pretty unique bass. Never seen one like that before. I'm guessing the knobs aren't factory stock?

I've never seen a J40 in a Model series before. Were they in the M1s only in '86?

yes only 86, then in 87 they made it a p.

The black knob is stock. The other is a Fenderish knob.

I just plugged it in yesterday...no sound. So I dug all of the excess solder out of it an checked the pup(ok). Pots are awful and the mini switch appeared to be wired for (phase). I wired it straight and the J40 seems to be all about that midrange. I am thinking this one may get an onboard preamp. I have an Audere in my Jazz. Anyone know of anything better for this one?

any preamp will work and take care of that midrange. Mine is also the same way, but I have a model2 and blend the p-on a bit. I added a preamp to it because I also like to turn up/down the bass-treb.

and ya the switch was for series parallel for the humbucker. I have the same option on my Eliminator but it is a push-pull on the vol pot and never use it.

funny that this thread is recently talking about the one HB pickup 1986 1B when this one arrives. 2000 CS lefty which is pretty rare.

Ordered the Audere classic and am currently contemplating a paint job.
