tanks. mike is a great guy. i bought this used and he spent quite a bit of time on the phone with me Re: it and some of its odd design quirks. it's v-v-t stacked with t-m-b with an active passive switch.
Nice bass, IvanMike! My early Basic 6 FL has the same pre-amp, pretty sure it's a TCT with bass boost/cut, mid boost and treble boost/cut, two volumes plus passive tone, but no centre detents on anything. Sounds superb! And those black aluminium knobs are great! Wonder where you can get them these days?!!??
Which reminds me, I just took possession of the black Basic 5, #1011, that was recently up for sale on TB!
Although I just missed out on it to Fernando (BassPro558), he decided to buy another Smith and on-sold it to me, lucky, lucky, lucky! It also has the TCT, with two volumes and three-band EQ, with no centre-detents, so you're always twiddling knobs to get a setting. But man, when you do, it's superb!!!
Mmm, does that mean I'm now holding a Full Hand or a Royal Flush of pre-Gibson Tobiases?!?!?

Yes, in fact, #1011 that I just bought, has exactly that! The rosewood board is a mid-brown colour with lots of really nice grain and the fretboard dots are nicely coloured pearl. Looks really nice up close!
Could be wrong, but isn't rosewood fairly normal for Basic models and Pau Ferro normal for Classics and Signatures?

Traded today for a Tobias Growler 4, will post pics and serial number later, so I can get my number. This one is 90s vintage, has some serious mojo on it, but plays like a charm. May just become my #1 Jazz bass, once I clean her up a bit and get some fresh Prosteels on her.
