Official Tobias Club

I am looking for a Tobias 5. I would prefer a Pre-Gibson, but would consider a good example of a post Gibson as well. Basic, Classic, Signature, Standard and Model Ts are all considerations, Any help you can lend in my search would be greatly appreciated. Thank you,

And then there were the notched pickups and then the last few switched over to Bartolini branded radiused pickups. And at some point Mike started testing single coil and other variants right?

Anybody have a pre-Gibson Tobias they'd like to sell me? Any of the pickup/preamp combos is fine by me. :)

Just purchased #1969! Back in the club here.

Yup, the check is in the mail! I've never been a fan of quilt, but that thing is simply stunning and the price was too good to pass. I researched previous sales of late '90s Classics here on TB and his asking price was at the lower end of what they've typically sold for. Strangely, most of them got snapped up pretty quick, but this one was still lingering after two months! Too bad for everyone who passed on it, good for me!

Congratulations Wayne!

I have the 6 string version of that bass. The top is a bit distracting on mine as well; but, the rest of the woods used are great. Those walnut bodies give a very woody percussive tone and the maple necks are very neutral/traditional.

A lot of fans of the pre-Nashville instruments were pretty critical of the instruments produced in Nashville. I have had good experiences with every Nashville bass I ever played. I found the team there to be knowledgeable and helpful. The earlier basses are a bit more carefully made; but, not in ways that directly affect their impact as performing instruments.

Enjoy!

FWIW, here is my bass:

I'd like to join, here's mine. :D
Nice! Details, please! Pre or post Gibson? Looks like Bubinga with a Walnut tone plate and maybe a maple back?

Funny you should show up here, I came across you Pedulla Club #45 just the other day when I was trying to find out info on Tobias's push/pull volume control.

In any event, welcome aboard! Add #132 to your signature!

It's an early Gibson. Bubinga top, Wenge tone plate and Alder wings with a Flamed Maple/Purple Heart neck and (I believe) wenge fingerboard. I was actually pointed here to hopefully get some more info on the pre-Gibson TCT pre's, glad to be a part of the club! Thanks for including that link too! I just went through and edited/sorted out some of the bad/contradicting/outdated info so it will be a better help to those who may end up there in the future.
