I saw it on ebay, noticed the seller was nearby, shot him a message and traded him a guitar for it. Wouldn't surprise me if he'd had it on CL, too, seemed pretty committed to moving it as he wasn't a bassist. It had been sitting in his house unused for over a decade!

Threw new strings on it, D'Addario Nickel XLs, only extra long scale strings I could find in town. Not my preferred string by any stretch, but they'll do the job until I get some DRs or TIs (even they even make them long enough). I'll try to make a vid during the day. It's actually quite hard to describe the sound, as it doesn't really resemble anything else out there.

First time poster here...wow, this thread has the most information on these obscure guitars I've found.

I picked up this Tune bass several months ago for $400without knowing anything about it. The shop was eager to be rid of it, as it had a problem with the board (occassional popping like bad pots) that they couldn't resolve. I really like the way it played and the popping hasn't been an issue.

From what I can gather, this is a TWX-4 built in 1999. The serial number on the back of the headstock starts with a 9 (it's not very legible). Does this sound about right? Thanks for any insight.

Talked to an older gentleman at a local music bar last night who was playing one of these Tune basses. Tone was amazing! He even let me check it out after the show. Gotta say, the body has a unique distinct appearance and it was very light weight! I was really "awed" by this instrument I had only known existed for like 30 minutes haha and im drooling over these pictures of the extended range Tune basses!

Hi guys,

I've been offered a really nice looking Tune 6 string. The guy says it's a Japanese model, but admits that the previous owner changed the hardware and bridge to gold ones.

The serial number is s070510557, I've read on here that the number makes it a Korean model.

Can anyone confirm this, it has twin truss rods and a brass nut, but I guess the nut could have been changed.

The recent passing of Yusef Lateef got me digging out some old recordings, including Metamorphosis from the early 90's. The cool thing about this record (related to this thread) is that bassist Avery Sharpe was using a MIJ Tune KingBass 6-string at the time; it's all over this record and it sounds phenomenal.

I was playing a padauk Zi-II 6-string as my #1 at the time; ahhh, those were some good days.

I still have this bass (MIJ) for trade. I am looking for a 4 string MIJ tune bass to trade for, or for the right tune 8 string (MIJ and without trem) I will add some cash. This is also for sale in the classifieds but I would rather trade it.

These differ in quality from the Korean made Tunes. Some notable differences are brass nut, Japanese made hardware, Japanese pickups, very tight grained ash body (typical of Japanese made instruments.) Condition is a 9. Not quite new or mint but not far off with a few minor blems that are unnoticeable. The only noticeable knock against this bass is the truss rod cover is missing. That is only an aesthetic issue and causes no functional issues.

It's a wonderful bass and there are sadly not many Japanese Tunes in America. I REALLY REALLY want one of their 8 strings.

Update on controls. Pan, Volume, Tone with push/pull pot that changes the frequency. There are also 3 trim pots inside the control cavity

$850 $800 plus shipping or best offer. Will ship overseas with neck disconnected.

On 3.21.14.There WAS a Walnut Tune TWB63 on the wall at the Music Go Round in Kenosha Wisc.It WAS there for a full month.Since Sam Ash no longer sells these excellent basses,I had to grab it!I traded my month old ESP B1006 and some brand new Gotoh GB707G tuners for it.Now it's in MY room next to my Ovangkol TWB63 fretless.This now concludes any and all bass buying for the future!I now have no reason for G.A.S.

My new Walnut Tune TWB63 is a bit more neck heavy than my fretless TWB63.(It's the weight of the frets course)So I just installed a set of gold plated Hipshot Ultralite tuners.A second set for the fretless will be coming later on.Up until now I have been using my Anchor Belt System to keep the neck up.But if I can lessen the tuner weight............I have also replaced those unimpressive black plastic knobs with some gold dome knobs.They match the gold hardware.Much more complimentary.

I have a Tune TWB43 bass. I got it for $400 brand new. It was originally almost $800 but the guy who had them in his store was going out of business so he was trying to get rid of them. He might even have some still lying around if anyone is interested. Anyhow...this company Tune are unsung heroes. This bass was a steel and I would put it up against any high end $2000 bass and I know what I am talking about...been playing for close to 30 years. If you can scoop one up...do it. Great basses for the price (if you can find a decent price on one).
