I've grown to love the Tonebender sound on bass. Would love to hear yours if you have the ability to record a clip or two or ten

Yeah - you bet! I need to get it back and then dive into how to record stuff (that's not a camera phone). But would love to. I went on a Bender "bender", finally kept the two I loved the best, the W&C and then an old school JMI MK II reissue.

I really love how massive the low end is on the 47/73. Very scooped, but I put a green ringer style octave up in front of it which actually boost the mids up quite a bit. Together they sound like a chainsaw, haha.

The Super Russian is an expanded TFR. I've honestly considered selling it to fund a TFR with the flat mid and creamy mods just to save a bit of space. I don't really use the boost.

FWIW, I had the SR and did the same thing for the reasons you mention. Don't get me wrong, the SR is a great pedal, I just didn't use the boost. And the Phat P B seemed to accomplish my boost needs if I ever decided I needed it. I got a TFR with all the fixin's you mention along with a blend.

And the 47/73 is going nowhere - great pedal.

The 47/73 is something special. I've had 3 guitarists try it and offer me stupid money for it. It is going nowhere. By far my favorite W&C pedal.

Still holding out hope for a Gold Comp Bass...

It is a very special one. Wouldn't part with mine either. I have however, considered sending it to W&C to get the flat mids toggle. Maybe the creamy dreamer. And I am also patiently waiting for the Bass Gold Comp. It'll be my first compressor!

What made you want a blend on the TFR?

I wanted to retain some of the un-effected low end. I usually put the blend at somewhere around 30% clean, 70% dirt.

I'm considering having both a Super Russian and a Box of War on my board. Seems like they would cover a lot of ground.

TFR and Box of War Don't really compare well… TFR has a completely different voice, and a whole lot more distortion. While I didn't have them both at the same time to be able to verify if they stack well… I remember them being completely different animals—And not interchangeable. Hope that helps ...

i mainly use it by itself as an always on, clean boost that gives me some headroom and a little bit of color.

Can I have two muffs on my board?

Just got my civil war back from getting it fixed by W&C and it is amazing. It has a blend and the flat and creamy switches. With the flat/blend/just a little bit of gain/and some bass... it sounds like a really good and full overdrive without being spitty or too Tubescreamery.

Has anyone sent their 47/73 to W&C to get any of the mods? I love the sounds I'm getting, but really curious what a flat mid switch and/or blend would do since it's really scooped. I've emailed W&C a couple times about mods, but no response other than their auto-email. They have an option to text - going to try that next.

I have a Russian deluxe and civil war w the mid and dreamer mods. The mid mod is great. Makes it flat and sits perfectly in the mix. Not extreme, just right. The dreamer gives you a whole different and deeper fuzz. Love that too.

I have the blend on my civil war and it took me a long time to figure that out. Forever, I could not figure out why the clean was so low in the mix with the blend. I even sent it back to have them look at it. What I finally realized is that there is no boost on the clean in the blend, but the dirty signal is significantly boosted and it's hard to get a clean balance. If I put a boost/OD in front of the muff, though, I was able to get more of a balance and that works. Not sure why they couldn't tell me this. Anyway, that's the deal w the blend.

it's a fine blend, but needs some work. And IMO, you don't really need it if you have the flat mids. With that, the signal sits fine in the mix.

That's exactly what I was looking to get out of the mid switch - nothing extreme, just to sit better in a mix. I was on the fence about the clean blend. Your comments were super helpful, and I can picture exactly what you're saying. I think I'll be skipping that. I have Blooper on the way anyway!

I'll also add, if you run something like a plumes or a klon into a muff, you get a lot of presence and mids but you still get the broad thickness of the muff. I spent forever trying to get more mids, but running my plumes first makes it happen.

I don't even need the mids on a switch. I always leave it flat. I built a muff and used the flat values. Just hard wired it that way.

The EXH Big Muff Pi is a Rams Head type that is pretty similar to this. It's a smoother, sustainer type of fuzz. Like David Gilmour style. I think it works well on bass too. It's not splatty at all. I also have an older big box Caprid. The pink one was a short run they made this summer. I've done a germanium Your Face 60s from the W&C custom shop, I love it on my guitar. They seem to knock them out fast and if you're adding options to a stock pedal it ends up costing the same.
