Official Zon Club Part 3

While I had the back access cover off I changed the battery and also adjusted the Bart trim pot down a bit. It sounded great live (through an amp) but it seemed to have a tendency to overdrive my PC Audio interface (when I boosted any on-board EQ).

Turning the trim pot to approx. 1/3 made a huge improvement in that area. It still sounds great through an amp and it matches the output level of my Elrick better too.

Anyone that does any recording in a rather inexpensive PC audio interface might want to do this too.

Here's the same tune that I posted earlier with the trim pot adjusted down. Unfortunately I over wrote the previous version so no A/B comparison.

I know these are way late, but here she is. The body grain is pretty straightforward, nothing special to look at there, and of course the neck is pretty plain looking, tho I really wanted it that way. I love that pure black ebony look over some of his phenowood boards that have a lot more of a wood grain look to them. But the top is really stellar, and the tone/playability is just friggin' ridiculous. Lovin' the hell out of it.

Beautiful Vic! I love the look of the dark shim between the top and the body. Nice transition and very classy looking.

I've got check out a Zon with the JJ p/u configuration.

Nice tone! Also looks like they didn't have to redo the nut on that bass as the headstock kickback is enough to keep the strings down, so you could always go (back) to B-G if you wanted by just buying strings. If you ever had the interest to do so, I think the B string would also impress you. :)

I like the look of the all-black phenowood, too- I really wish mine were like that. Particularly my 6 string, because it is a particularly streaky board. I've considered using some ebony dye to hide the grain, but never gone through with it. Maybe I should.

I gigged with mine for just the 3rd time today and I am just totally amazed at all of the creamy mid-range that it produces.

The percussionist walked around in front of me during one of the tunes (at sound check) just to verify whether I was playing a fretless (my Zon is fretted). I had the bridge p/u soloed and there was tons of growl! As Vic and others have stated, every note on the fingerboard sustains so evenly.

On a different subject I'll have to chime in as one of the ones that prefers the variegated look on the Phenowood fingerboard. That's one of the things that sold me on the look of my Zon.

Hey Vic,

I got a quick question,

This may be to much to ask, but can you maybe talk to Joe about putting up some of the pics that they take at the shop onto Talkbass?

I know they are a small operation, and i'm sure its the last thing Joe is thinking of, but maybe someone in the shop that does the web presence/matinence can help (I know it most likely won't be Joe).

So many players would love to see the pro photos they take before they go out the door of the shop...who knows, it may be good advertising huh? ha ha j/k. Joe is putting out some killer stuff and its so hard to see whats going on and what's being done.

I really like the way Pete Sjkold, Roscoe, Sadowsky and Fodera have kept up with that important part of the business. I mean most of these luthiers will actually answer you questions and feedback on Talkbass...so awesome.

Their are too many wonderful Zon instruments going out that no one see's but the owner's....I don't know how often you talk to Joe but maybe just put a bug in Joe's ear if you can?
