Official Zon Club Part 4

Sold the fretted a while back to have money to order a similar Elrick with tighter spacing, ended up having to spend that money. Sold the fretless recently to either get a fretted with tighter spacing as planned or try something different. Unfortunately, the specs I like (34" or less, tight string spacing, radiused pickups) are very rare for Elricks, and the cost of ordering a new one has shot way up over the past few years, so I went with a couple TJs that I knew I'd like from playing AJ's basses in the past.

The weight on them is really consistent, which is nice- 9.54lbs for the fretted and 9.58lbs for the fretless.
Awww, this kind of makes me sad since I might be joining the club soon...

:ninja:

Those look great, Bryan. The fretted reminds me of a hyperbass-bodied fretless I used to have.

I wish I could've met made it to one of the get togethers while I lived in CT to compare those to mine. Especially the difference in weights- mine are ~8 lbs and ~13 lbs!

Edit: Thanks for the idea on the ramp- I'm going to try that on my TJ6. I ruined the smooth ramp surface when I swapped from Barts to Lane Poors. Thanks!!

I just officially went off the deep end. I bought a ZON Custom Special FRETLESS! Yikes!! I've never owned or played a fretless, but here we go.

:D

I'm still looking for a fretted 5 of similar pedigree, but this will have to do for now.

No problem- you can get a big sheet of the stuff for like $5:

It helps to use a guillotine-style paper cutter to cut it evenly.

That's a hell of a first fretless. Congrats.

Awesome looking Zon fretless Jason!

Between the Phenolwood fingerboard and the positioning of those P/U's I suspect that you'll have some killer growl & mwah!

It is blackened redwood. It came from the same billet as mine

It's burled claro walnut according to the birth certificate Mark Gullo filled out, but it sure has that maroonish color that redwood burl has though....

What are the control layouts on it & how did it change the sounds (what was in it before)?

thanks.

I'm actually not sure how it sounded before as it had the Pope preamp in it when I got it. I am going to ask my buddy to put the Polyfusion back in it so I can hear the difference.

Just spent Friday night (dance/pop) and yesterday/today (worship) with my older Zon Sonus 5 with the skinny spacing (17mm) and straight up stock singles with the bart preamp. Only "option" was the three way mid switch. Such a completely badass bass on every level. My gosh.

Anyone know a way to order replacement pots for a Polyfusion? Zon hasn't responded via email (not a big surprise), and we can't find a source for the same board-mount pots
