Official Zon Club Part 5

the Zon shop is in the heart of the California fires!!! brutal!
No. The Zon shop is now in Emeryville. They're OK, at least for the time being.
I know where the fires are. Our home is in the middle of the CZU fire. Time will tell if it makes it. We had to evacuate on Tuesday night. Only was able to take one bass, of course it was my Zon.
We did get out with the animals and family, and are safe and staying with friends.

Best wishes for you and your family!

They moved again already? That was a short stay in Livermore. I dig it though, means they're 5-10 minutes from my house instead of 45. Looking forward to picking out my top wood in person. (Fingers crossed) Yep, I'm also on the list of folks with a deposit on a build. Put in just before NAMM in mid January at start of this crazy year. Was told "probably November" for completion but I'm expecting a few months delay thanks to pandemic.

How is the weather and conditions? are you getting blackouts? smoke issues?

Its pretty crap to be honest. Air quality bad. No blackouts, at least where I am. Hasn't been as hot lately, which is good as many of us have no air conditioners and you can't open windows for the smoke smell/air qual. There was supposed to be a possibility of heavy wind and more dry lightning, but so far hasn't happened.

We dodged a bullet (in the Santa Cruz Mountains) with the absence of more lightning.
That was huge - more strikes = more fires and firefighting resources are already stretched ridiculously thin.

I’m over here in Monterey/Seaside and luckily we had a little bit of moisture in the area and in Santa Cruz but no lightening strikes, air quality is bad,I work at Point Lobos which is closed because of that and they issued all of us N95 masks as the cloth ones everybody wears are pretty useless for the smoke particles everywhere.

So I put a deposit down on a Zon Sonus Special 4 string with stainless steel frets. It was a $200 upcharge for the stainless. @Angus, have you received your bass? I haven't quite made it through this thread so I apologize if you've already answered this question.

As I have a build in progress I dropped an email to Martin. His response:

Thanks for reaching out. Yes, we’ve had to shut down operations. The smoke has made the air quality very hazardous and the temps have been unbearable.

Today it was 112 degrees. Then there are the rolling electrical blackouts. Hard to work when the ambient temp in the shop is 97.
Hope to be back up and running late next week.“

It’s not that much fun “not” working in that (this) kind of heat. It’s just freakin’ hot.

I picked up a motorcycle yesterday after getting new shoes put on it. At one point the bike read.... 119.5F ....and that lasted about a minute. Most of the ride was 110-114F.

stopped at a post office that’s always cold as a chiller in the lobby. Stripped off some gear(always wear gear) and just kept dripping.

so I understand where they are coming from!

In my case I have a pretty basic Vinnie in order, but, I told them I’ll also step up for any color changes, cancellations, fretted or fretless, whatever. Hoping it improves my chances!
