It has an Aguilar 2 band in it now. I'm going to put an East URetro in it this summer. Ill have the switch then.

My Zon sonus special arrived. It's a fabulous instrument in every way. Tone is amazing, very ergonomic, preamp is setup with the right frequencies. The bubinga strips are a really nice touch. The wood is voiced perfectly. Pickup locations are perfectly suited to fretless. Just top notch. Really pleased with the bass.

If anyone wants to build a zon sonus 5 from a loaded 34" neck, i just listed one for trade in the classifieds.

I have three 34" Zon 5 stings that are quite nice - one ebay, one TB Classifieds and one from a buddy. They are out there to be had.

Not just yet, I'm going to do and A/B comparison soon, but from what I can tell the sonus special tone is very similar, just a little more punch and and a hair less thick. The sentimental value of the legacy is the primary issue.

I notice that most Zon's come with Bartolini pickups and a Polyfusion preamp. My TJ5 has the Bartolini pickups but a Bartolini (NTMB-918F) preamp.

Does anyone know what at the difference is between the Bartolini and Polyfusion preamps?

IIRC and IMO, the polyfusion was a little more sparkly and open whereas the Bart was a little fuller and thicker down low, and more compressed overall. That's way generalized, but pretty much how I remember hearing them in comparison about 12 years ago.

I have been listening to NORTH by Jim Lampi (Chapman Stick) and Michael Manring. For fans of Michael's melodic fretless playing this is a real treat. The stick and fretless Zon are a wonderful combination.
