Well, I guess I'm too lazy to take new pix, so here's pix from a sale thread here where I got it from. She's a knockout in person! pix don't do it justice :)

The clarity and the thump are both there in equal measure. It's closest to the Sonus 4 due to the single coil pickups (the Sonus 4/2's have dual humbuckers and the Lightwave was, well, a Lightwave). More knobs on the Vinny than the Sonus 4 ;) and I found the sound easily tweaked from the bass without having to go to the amp.
It is very comfortable to play either sitting or standing. I used to gig it a lot about 5 years ago when I first had it and a couple of shows during the last 6 months or so after I "recovered" it. The reach is slightly longer due to the shorter upper horn but it's not enough to be a problem.

The build quality is all there across the board. I intially worried about tuning stability with the Vinny, but after having it for a few months (the first time) I quickly realized it wasn't an issue. I initially had a disconcerting feeling when I'd see my fretting hand slide up to the first position imagining my hand sliding off the end, but it's not a problem once you get past the visual and just go by feel. Zon actually puts a hump in the back of the neck right where you would find the same hump in a bass with a headstock, so the "feel" is the same. Of all the one's I've had I give the sonic edge to the Vinny. I've heard some folks knocking the Bartolini pickups, but I've never had an issue with them. I like the Barts used in the Zons as well as the Lakies I've used.

Did you buy the Spalted Fretless 4 recently from dabass? It looks like the one I had defretted at the factory... that was a sweet bass.

FYI - if it is that bass, it's got the Sonus Custom electronics.

Yep, that`s the bass.
I agree that it`s a sweeet instrument, and it`s slowly making me improve my fretless intonation.

Have no idea it had Sonus Custom electronics.
I always it was a "standard" Sonus Special preamp, since the Zon web site offers Bart 3band Eq with mid switch as an option.

What`s the difference with the Sonus Custom electronics ?

I can't believe no one has done this one yet. I'll take #1, and assign numbers as they come in!

Here's mine. A 5 string Sonus 519, with a spalted maple top. I'm loving this bass so far.....

That was mine too for a little while.. :)

Well, no number for me, but I sure enjoyed my three Zon basses when I had them.

Sonus Custom Fretless 5 w/ piezo, flame amethyst.
Lightwave Fretless
Sonus Custom 5, nat. quilt.

I kinda wonder where they are now, I haven't seen 'em round here.

enjoy the club fellas!

I think what I mean by Custom is that it's a Sonus Special with 519 electronics.

No number for me. . . yet. Sold my Special fretless 5, and Sonus fretless 4 (BIG mistake :rollno:).

For coyoteboy, and anyone else in the know, what do you think of the Zon Lightwave fretless basses? Say, compared to a regular Zon Sonus fretless. . .

Thanks!

That really is stunning. One of the nicest Zons I have seen! I hope to get a Zon someday, I feel they are about the best fretless basses you can buy these days. A four string Sonus with a lined board, bartolini humbuckers close to the bridge and black hardware would be perfect. Maybe I'd have myself a nice flamed maple top on there too! :D

+1.
Seems to be you`re describing my Sonus fretless :smug:
I`ll try to post better pictures tonight. It`s simply amazing. Even unplugged you get a mwah to die for.
